March 3, 20178 yr comment_514325 I have build three R180s in the last year, two for my car and one for a friend. Once you have a diff (R180 or 200) in the ratio that works for your set-up go buy a Quaife or an OBX, new bearings and seals. The last two items you're going to buy anyway with whatever diff you get unless it was recently rebuilt. Might I suggest that since you are new to all this that you spend time reading and thinking about what you want your Z to be when it is done (they are actually never done but assume they are for now) and then decide how you are going to pay for all this. March 3, 20178 yr Author comment_514336 The reason y I asked about the 350z rear end is because I want to use a 350z tranny in my 280z. So I was wondering if the rear sub will be bolt up or custom will need to be done Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57167-rear-subframe-conversion/?&page=2#findComment-514336 Share on other sites

You need to look under your new Z car. There is no "subframe" to swap. The 350Z diff is shorter. The 350Z transmission is built for a V6, not a straight 6, it's not a bolt-in. It doesn't fit correctly. The 350Z parts are, for the most part, useless for any Z car built before 1984. If you have a smashed up 350Z that you're trying to salvage from, there's nothing there that's of significant value for your 78 280Z. You should stop focusing on the 350Z. There's no value. March 4, 20178 yr comment_514399 I tend to agree with Zed Head but I don't have any hard facts to back that up. The engines are totally different and I suspect you would need a custom mounting plate made to adapt the 350z tranny; that will cost extra. Clutch and pressure plate are going to be an issue and could require custom pieces, again more cash. Will the 350z tranny even fit in an S30 tunnel? Is the tranny the right length to come up into or close to the shifter hole. How does it mount? How will you have to modify the chassis to hold the new tranny and on and on and on... Having done projects like this myself with mixed results I suggest you don't try to "reinvent the wheel". Go with a tried and true 5 speed option and drive on Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57167-rear-subframe-conversion/?&page=2#findComment-514399 Share on other sites
March 4, 20178 yr comment_514402 You can do anything if you have the skills. If you don't, you must have the money. There is a whole section on HybridZ for V6 swaps. Read, read and read some more. Don't ask any questions until you have read. You can spend months reading everything there is so much information. http://forums.hybridz.org/forum/35-nissan-v6-forum/ If you can't find it searching on hybridz use google to search the site. March 4, 20178 yr comment_514447 Are you trying to connect the 350z tranny to the L6 engine? I searched for FS6R31A which is the Manual 6 speed from the 350z and only 5 post came up. Only one person asked if this swap has been done and it appears it hasn't at least there. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/59374-350z-trans-l24possible/?hl=fs6r31a#entry543739 Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile Edited March 4, 20178 yr by JSM Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57167-rear-subframe-conversion/?&page=2#findComment-514447 Share on other sites
