Posted April 18, 200322 yr comment_34429 Heh guys and gals (are there any?).Lookin into picking up a cheap 78 280 ($US 200) as a parts car for for 240 project. I know that the donk, box are the same but what about the little things like heater/consol/gauges/wiring loom. From memory the body shells are identical, are they? All the glass should interchange but what about the suspension setup....brakes etc. Also does the 280 have a different brake booster or was that only the ZX series.Cheers, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5718-parts-car/ Share on other sites
April 19, 200322 yr comment_34465 Most of the wiring harnesses and possibly gauges will be unusable. Heater box itself will work I think, but the controls as well as the center console are quite different, but you might be able to make them work if you had too.... Suspension is 90% the same except for the strut housings are different lenghts and diameters.... Brake booster and master are the same..... My question is, where you gonna find a 280 over yonder? Didn't think they were imported anywhere except over here? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5718-parts-car/#findComment-34465 Share on other sites
April 20, 200322 yr Author comment_34608 Thanks 2Manyz's,Interesting that Mike filed my post under Funnybone......is he trying to say something????It appears that all sorts of early Zeds appeared here in New Zealand from my research so far. Quite strange to see so many different models out here but they are here... most in garages or rotting away. Two 280Z's have been advertised lately. One is road worthy ($US500) and the other is suitable as a parts car ($US200).What I'm really looking at here is something that is drivable (well as close as possible) and use it until I find that "not to much to do to it" 240 turns up. Then I will have the car I want and a mechanical parts car. I'm guessing that most of the panels are the same, the glass, rear light assembly etc are all the same.Once the 240 is as I would like/dream/need it, then I'll retire the 280 to parts in storage waiting for the day that I need that impossible part i.e. rear end panel.Cheers PS...Still haven't got a new PC hence the lack of Chat room time.....how's the mad Texan?Remember............................
