Serban Posted April 19, 2017 Share #25 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) I never got a chance to go out drinking, I met with the captain during my lunch hour. I keep tossing around the idea of a front bumper, but not at the top of my priority list. Btw, I was close to keeping a patina look, this was on the way to the body shop, I almost told them to just clear coat the car the way it was, but ultimately chose white, to try and keep it classy Edited April 19, 2017 by Serban
FlyingScot Posted April 19, 2017 Share #26 Posted April 19, 2017 Serban - who do use locally for bodyshop? I do most of my work but paint and final prep goes to someone else Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
Serban Posted April 19, 2017 Share #27 Posted April 19, 2017 I started doing my own body work, and that's as far as I got before I had to call it quits. With a kid on the way, I'd have no time to finish it, so I sent it off to Maaco. I know that's a terrible thing to do, but they actually did a decent job. I was in it for about $1100. I found that most body shops, before they even saw the car, when then heard "75 280Z", they automatically threw a number of $5k. or higher, which I found frustrating. Hi Serban, This is the only other good pic I have of your car: And how bizarre is it that you mentioned Mosler... I saw this during my driving tour to search out the historical sites in Boca: That Mosler was directly across the narrow street at the entrance to Pearl City. This is the sign on the exit side:

You can drive in there. FlyingScot, I wasn't sure if there was anyone in that guard hut or not, and I didn't feel like taking a risk. Now I know for next time though! And next time, you and me at the bar in Cap's Place!

Getting garage sorted and floor epoxied this weekend - will have dual projects running between my S2000 and 280z - glad I picked up a lift and low boy at Xmas. If the car is as I think it is - I may leave it fairly stock and do "deep" tune up and enjoy...but I love to modify. My S2K had 3000 miles on it when I dropped suspension and replaced/upgraded and put in a supercharger and I had nothing but fun with that car until bending it at Homestead. Will get pics up when it comes - but definitely a drive and some good bars. The bar at Cap's place looks the same as in this linked pic - Caps Place

Serban Posted April 20, 2017 Share #33 Posted April 20, 2017 @FlyingScot, I see you're down in South FL too, every few months, me and some of the local Datsun guys meet up on a Sunday for a few hours. If you have Facebook, look up the page called "South Florida Datsuns". Our next meet will be June 18th, still ironing out all the details.
FlyingScot Posted April 20, 2017 Share #34 Posted April 20, 2017 Serban thanks - I'm not on FB but my wife is. Just had her join so we can keep current - she's loves the cars but not mechanical, though I did teach her to balance SUs and tappet adjustments on my 71 MGB. Loved that car but makes Datsuns look rust proof, had to get rid of or get a new shell.Strongly considering SUs or DCOE on this if I start to modify. Got pretty good with needle profiles and tuning after so many years with the car. Really looking forward to this project.Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
Serban Posted April 20, 2017 Share #35 Posted April 20, 2017 Perfect, this way you'll be able to keep up with the meet dates. BTW, I gave up on the EFI setup in my Z and went with an SU setup, and shortly after with a 40DCOE setup. Throttle response is pretty awesome on the Webers, but it's probably still not properly synced.
