April 21, 20177 yr comment_518748 I think you have it right. Slotted mags all the way. Aged but ageless wheels for an ageless car. I have been wanting a 240z every since I dumped my last one in '87. I was going with slotted mags if I ever bought a new one. The only problem with these cars is the wheels change the look of the whole car. I finally bought a 905 red '71 and the slotted looked terrible so I switched. The color didn't match the wheels. But they will look great on white. if it were me, I would buy 4 used deep slotted aluminum wheels and send them off for polishing. It might cost a little more than new but they may look a little better too. Just make sure you can find center caps. Finding some that fit can be difficult. May 7, 2024May 7 comment_665077 Hopefully this thread isn't too old, but since you're talking about some rims I'm looking at--I have a '72 240z, and found some 280zx turbo snowflakes in decent shape. I'd like to go with 15" wheels instead of the 14"s, and something slightly wider, which these are. How compatible (are they the same?) is the offset? I don't need super wide rubber, and he's got 195s on there right now. Will I (should I?) use spacers? I still have the stock hubs on the car. Thanks in advance, Christopher Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57378-swapping-280z-wheels-on-my-240z-with-aftermarket-15-x-7-wheels/?&page=2#findComment-665077 Share on other sites
May 7, 2024May 7 comment_665091 I've got 15x7 0 offset Rewinds with 205/50 Hankooks on my '72 and am very happy with the fitment and price. That thread says Falken tires but I was wrong. The 15s are Hankooks and I have Falkens on 16" rewinds on my '77. May 7, 2024May 7 comment_665092 Use the tire calculator that is in that thread. The 195 is the sidewall size. The lower number is the width, for mine they're 50s for width or rubber meets the asphalt footprint. Tire Size Calculator | Tire Size Chart | Tire Size Conversion | Discount Tire Ended up with 205/60 R15 which calculated out to be almost identical to stock tire height (assuming 195/70-14) so when my speedo reads 65 MPH actual would be 64.8 MPH, pretty close. The 205 is tire width and 60 is a tire height percent of tire width and the R15 is the wheel diameter.
