Posted April 20, 200321 yr comment_34560 My drivers door wont lock with the key from the outside anymore, the key seems to hit the limit before it can successfully lock the door, there is no problem unlocking it afterwards though. Anyone had this problem before? Or know a way I can fix it? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5742-door-doesnt-lock/ Share on other sites
April 20, 200321 yr comment_34566 My door locks lock OK but then they wont open with the key from the outside. I'm told they are worn bushings inside the mechanism. But i have bigger to fish to fry and they are low on my priority list. I'll fix them someday Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5742-door-doesnt-lock/#findComment-34566 Share on other sites
April 20, 200321 yr comment_34582 my 78 has the same problem. both doors. it's been that way since we bought the car 2 years ago. I haven't really done anything about it since it gets parked in the garage, and I live on an AF base where the neighborhoods are regularly patroled.I understand this is a quite common occurence on the older Zs. my wife's 77 had the same problem.eventually, I'm just gonna get new locks. April 20, 200321 yr comment_34583 It could be something as simple as one of the rods on the latch lever binding. I can't remember exactly, but I believe there are plastic nuts on the ends of the vertical rods that adjust the lenght of the rods for both the outside lock and the outside door handle where it sits into the lever on the door patch. You'll have to pull the door panel to access it, but it could be something that won't require you to buy any new parts......They are a bit tricky to access and adjust, but with a little tinkering you can adjust not only the outside door handle and lock, but if you look on the horizontal rod for the inside handle there is an adjustment there as well.
