April 14, 20177 yr Author comment_517986 After searching the forum for 280z muffler I see several threads where others have struggled/complained about these mufflers not fitting on a 280z with standard bumpers. I even saw where Joseph made an apology in the middle of 2016 for the oversight and not noting this system would not fit and tuck up tightly on a stock 280z due to cavity design and bumper mounts. I have no idea why this muffler was sent to me when it was plain it would not fit my car. Really feel misled by the supplier. April 14, 20177 yr comment_518001 I apologize for not getting these to you sooner and I still can't get a current picture, these are from 2012?, I've been away from home and my laptop. After looking at these shots, my 280's muffler is more like 10 and 4 o'clock looking from the rear. Hell it's almost flat! I'll get under there and get some pictures of the bumper mounts and how close they are Saturday morning. It's also backwards from my 240, the outlet is the center hole on the 280 but i did not go by any other pictures or MSA recommendations, I fit it the best way that I could. I do remember the mufflers were different though. The early one said Dynomax and it seems it was a little bigger, the last one I bought did not have Dynomax stamped in it and it went on best with the outlet being the offset hole towards the ground. That's on the 240. Joseph's is the one that puts out fires, he apologizes daily I'm sure so at the worst if you take it to a muffler shop and have them get it tucked in Joseph would make it right somehow, credit or a free shipping coupon. They have always done the right thing for me. April 14, 20177 yr comment_518042 I never had a 280Z but on the 240Z, the best fit for the muffler is center inlet and offset outlet. The origional MSA exhaust kit had a slip fit joint located as I marked in your photo. This allowed further adjustment along with the twist of the muffler to get it tucked up higher. If the 3 hole flange they are using now is fixed then that is a bad idea as then there is no longer any adjustments to be made. April 14, 20177 yr comment_518071 I have some pictures of mine and I hope they will help but if you got the wrong part number system, and they're different, I hate that but it happens from time to time. I know it's a pain in the a** but I just moved mine around until it didn't touch anything. Whether it's right or wrong by the instructions I have know idea but it does not rattle or touch anything on my '77 280. Hoping for a good result for you! This didn't work out as good as I thought. Let me know what pictures might help and I'll get them for you. I tried posting too many photos this time and got a little F'ed up. April 14, 20177 yr comment_518078 Another thing they haven't done is get some decent U clamps. They don't come with lock washers and as you can see from these pictures they rust like hell. Aluminized premium exhaust with cheap Chinese metal U bolts, WTHell???
