Recommended Posts

My brother recently passed away and I am tasked with selling his beloved 240Z-"Punkin"

I am hoping that someone can help me approximate the value and provide some tips on best to sell it.

It's a 1973-orange-240Z

Manual Transmission.

Brand new engine-0 miles.  I suspect my brother had planned to drive this for a very long time.

I have all the receipts for repairs done over the last few years.

just detailed.

So,what other information would be helpful?

Thank you for your help.

First, I am sorry for your loss.

As to selling the car, your best bet would be to see if someone here is near you to look over the car and give pointers on what buyer would like to see. The main thing will be to get pictures, a LOT of pictures, esp of areas that are known to rust (rust is very common on Z cars, hopefully this one was in a dry area). Typical pictures would be under the car so having it on a lift would help (making sure the lift operator knows how to lift correctly is important). Under the battery, and under the brake booster is good to. Not knowing your level of car knowledge makes it hard to described exactly what buyers are looking for is why it would be good to get a member here to look it over and point out these areas.

Are you looking for a local, easy sale, or trying to maximize value?  Or do you just want it to go to someone who appreciates it?

You're on the right site.  There is a whole range of possibilities, from selling it overseas, to selling it to a local that shows up at your doorstep.

Is it driveable right now or will it need towing would be one important question.  General location also.

Yes, sorry for your loss.

Like Travel'n Man mentioned above, Pictures of everything.  Interior, Engine, All of the outside, Front, Back, underneath.  Close ups of the panel below the door and around the wheel wells.  The more information the better on these cars.  People who are interested in buying will absolutely will ask and want to see these. They will help you sell it now or later. Whenever you are ready.

I realize that if you are not car type person it seems like a lot to do but they will help speed up the process.

I too am sorry for your loss. Now that you have made it known you have one for sale I don't see you having a big problem selling it. Based on the pic you posted it looks pretty good. A knowledgeable buyer will know what problem areas to look for. A non-knowledgeable buyer WON'T know what problem areas to look for but either way both buyers will look to spend as little as possible. MY SUGGESTION...try and find a knowledgeable Datsun person nearby to be around to assist you when you speak with a buyer. ALLOW NO TEST DRIVES! After you deal with a few potential buyers you will know who is serious. If it has a fresh engine that is worth at least  $4500 in and of itself. If the rest of the car is complete and all stock tack on another 3K. If the interior has normal wear and tear no big deal. If the dashboard is Crack free add another 1K. That puts you at about $8500. But get someone to help you with it. The buyers will be contacting you soon. There are quite a few sites like this one and I would probably stay away from EBAY and Craig's List. Too many jokers. If a potential buyer shows up driving one............BINGO!  Good luck.

I do not know what to say, but I am sorry. To be tasked with selling something he loved is not an easy proposition.  I would think that he would want it to go to somebody who would love it like he did.  This is the right place to get the sale started.  People on this site are passionate about Z's. I hope this community can help you find a buyer. I know a few people looking at all times. I will wait for the pics and show them to my contacts.
