grannyknot Posted July 27, 2020 Share #97 Posted July 27, 2020 I like the use of the paint stir sticks, I'll have to borrow that one next time. Thanks, actually they are a bit to stiff to handle the curves though. I had to break them into smaller pieces. That white 1/4" plastic molding is actually perfect. It flexes nicely. I think that was left over from some home improvement project. If I did this a lot, I would get some more of the plastic molding. motorman7 Posted August 3, 2020 Author Share #99 Posted August 3, 2020 Still waiting on the new dash from vintage dash and air cleaner from the powder coat shop. Threw the old dash in for now so I could get the motor running. 20200802_163644.mp4 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-603706 Share on other sites

Popular Post motorman7 Posted August 6, 2020 Author Popular Post Share #101 Posted August 6, 2020 Thanks! Finally got the air cleaner back from the powdercoat shop. Turns out they were shut down for a week as one of the employees had COVID, thus the delay. Now just waiting for radiator decals and engine bay is complete. 5 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-603893 Share on other sites
motorman7 Posted August 8, 2020 Author Share #102 Posted August 8, 2020 Took her out for a quick photoshoot. Car is running very nice. Still waiting for a dash so the interior is incomplete, but otherwise she is just about finished. 3 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-603939 Share on other sites
dmorales-bello Posted August 9, 2020 Share #103 Posted August 9, 2020 Amazing job on the exterior and the engine bay! I'm sure your interior will be just as impeccably finished. Patcon Posted August 10, 2020 Share #104 Posted August 10, 2020 So how did you run it without the dash? I wouldn't have thought to try that Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-604035 Share on other sites

I wouldn't have thought to try that Ah, sorry, was not very clear on that. I put in the old cracked dash with about 6 screws and connected most of the harness connectors. No heater panel or center stuff. Gauges work, ammeter, oil, water , gas and tach. Just enough to run it. Hopefully new dash is available soon. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-604040 Share on other sites
motorman7 Posted August 24, 2020 Author Share #106 Posted August 24, 2020 Got so tired of slamming the doors on my white Z to close them that I decided to try the Kia Sportage weatherstripping mentioned on another thread here. Wow, what a difference! Door closes nicely and the door is now aligned again with the rear dogleg panel. My guess is that the metal portion of the Precision brand weatherstripping is too wide. There is no need for it to be that wide. If it was the same as the Kia metal portion, I think it would work well. Unfortunately it does not. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-604729 Share on other sites

It's nice to have softer closing doors but now you need to check how weathertight those Kia seals really are. When I changed my worn out original door seals for the Precision set I immediately noticed three things : 1- I now had to close the door much harder; 2- the smell of partially burnt fuel in the cabin virtually disappeared, and 3- wind noise at highway speeds decreased greatly. I would love to be able to close my doors softly but I'm quite content with less wind noise and virtually no fumes in the cabin. Please let us know how your Kia weatherstripping fares in those two regards. 240dkw Posted August 25, 2020 Share #108 Posted August 25, 2020 I have been using the Kia weatherstripping on both doors and the hatch for 5 years now and have no issues with noise and/or fumes. The doors close with a nice quiet click. 1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57799-to-buy-or-not-to-buythat-is-the-question/?page=9#findComment-604736 Share on other sites
