Is this an original factory am-fm stereo 8-track for 73'240z

These were quite popular in the mid-70's. You stuck your 8 track cartridge in the player and you played all 4 tracks (2 ran simultaneously so you had stereo) and you listened to the whole album. Pretty nifty concept, same one used as the radio stations to play songs and commercials.

Hardest thing you'll have with that is getting tapes to play in it.

To hook it up, you've got the schematic on that decal on the chassis. Hook up a wire to the positive side of the battery and put that in the Red wire, then a black to chassis ground, and one wire each to the left and right speakers. The other terminal on the speakers goes to chassis ground.

Whether it's the original or not? Could very well be.

If you need any more info on the operation of it, I used to sell car stereos and can pretty much tell you what to look for.

Actually, P/N 29220-E4125 or 29400-E8725 were for an 8 track stereo radio as a factory installed option (with TWO speakers even).

The microfiche doesn't show a good detail of the face, but from the fact that the one you have does NOT have an antenna switch on the upper right, I would say it's more than likely an aftermarket one.

The antenna on the 240 was a manually operated electric antenna. i.e. you had to push the button in one direction or the other to get it to work. A Fully Automatic Antenna detects the radio being turned on and off and actuates accordingly.

FWIW
