SeKcGamer Posted August 20, 2017 Author Share #97 Posted August 20, 2017 #6 here says it's a fine brass screen. Some people use air pressure to blow it open.http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/42740-how-to-cut-open-280z-gas-tank/Do you still want me to run down to the store and get wire? Or use air?.Sent from my SM-J320V using Classic Zcar Club mobile

JSM Posted August 20, 2017 Share #103 Posted August 20, 2017 (edited) You should be able to blow one way, but not the other. If not carb cleaner may clean it up. Skip all this for now in my mind. Get the lines cleaned out. Edited August 20, 2017 by JSM
Captain Obvious Posted August 21, 2017 Share #104 Posted August 21, 2017 That little black gizmo is what they call the check valve, and it's not as simple as it looks. In one direction, it is supposed to pass vapor easily, and in the other direction, it is supposed to pass vapors as well, just not as easily. Here's a couple snippets from the FSM showing the details: Here's where it is on the car (Number 8): Here's where it is on the evap system schematic (number 17): And here's how you are supposed to test it. Note that they didn't include this little tidbit until the 78 version of the FSM. In the EC (Emissions Control) section:

Dave WM Posted August 21, 2017 Share #107 Posted August 21, 2017 ideally the gas jug should be above the pump. maybe a little longer lines and put the jug up on a box.

I wonder why they want air to flow back into the tank? did the 78 have a sealed gas cap maybe? oh wait is says there is a vacuum relief valve right on the gas cap description. ugh.
