Posted August 14, 20177 yr comment_527921 My 78 280z has the stock bumper that I'd like to convert to a sleeker air dam. The problem I'm running into, however, is that the air dam I want (the Kaminari) only fits the 240/260. I think modifying it, and switching the parking lights will be a pain in the arse. So I'm instead considering the MSA type 3 with the grill, but it looks hit or miss in the photos (some looks angular and aggressive, others look rounded and 90s-sequences.) Do anyone have either mounted they can share pics of? Or does recommend one of the other for a 280z? Also open to other solutions and air dam types. Just not a fan of those big arse bumpers! Thanks! August 14, 20177 yr comment_527922 I purchased this one through MSA, I did not want the hassle of changing the location of the blinkers. This is a fiberglass model, the thing I don't link is that it is not flat up front, I say it looks like a buck tooth..LOL. Otherwise, install was straight forward and I've had it a year without incident. I did have to do a lot of prep work for a good finish though but believe that's the case with most of the fiberglass parts. I also installed the fiberglass 240 style bumpers. Just to be clear, you've had the type 3 with grill for a year? And installed the 240 style bumper? One of the reasons I'm considering the type 3 is because it has a built in bumper look with it. August 14, 20177 yr comment_527928 I will check my receipt from MSA when I get back in a couple days. It's just an air dam, no aftermarket grill, using the one that was on the car slightly modified. It has no built in bumper look. August 14, 20177 yr comment_527931 Not sure what you think will be different in posts here than by just going here: https://www.google.com/search?q=MSA+type+3+280z&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch Everyone's free to have their own opinions, but the MSA Type 3 is probably the worst looking of the "regular" options. August 14, 20177 yr comment_527935 I used a 240 air dam and bumpers. If this floats your boat I can give details. You should search Eurodat up too. He did a nice detailed post on the conversion. August 14, 20177 yr comment_527936 I did the Xenon air dam on my 260Z along with stainless steel bumpers. There is a version of the Xenon air dam for the 280Z that doesn't have the lower turn signals. August 15, 20177 yr comment_527987 Wait, is that a Black Pearl edition? Are you sure you want change the bumpers? It seems to me that the Black Pearl is worth more that the "regular" 280. Just curious. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58315-280z-front-bumper-conversion-kaminari-or-msa-type-3/#findComment-527987 Share on other sites
