The PO never marked the steering wheel where it was originally, now I need an alignment and want to have the steering wheel in its original position. Is there an alignment mark or something to indicate if the steering wheel is correctly mounted to the steering shaft?

The FSM says "after facing the punch mark on the top of the upper column shaft".

I forgot to mark mine too.  After alignment I just pulled the wheel and put it back on straight while it was still on the alignment rack at the shop.  Before I went I had the horn pad off and the right size socket with me.  Plus the guy was nice as hell.

The only thing that is "correct" is putting the wheel on with the rack centered in its travel before installing the steering wheel "straight".  Who knows who's had the column out, or the steering shaft out and put it back in who-knows-where alignment with that factory punch mark. 

 

zkars, i agree i know for sure the steering column was rebuilt. so i guess ill take it to the shop and get it aligned and then worry about the steering wheel position

My alignment shop set my alignment and then centered the wheel. They will appreciate it if you have it loose on the shaft.
