Posted April 25, 200321 yr comment_35154 Can any one tell me from experience what to expect to pay for an L24 Short Block Rebuild? Using my own block (no core charge), standard rebuild, no extras, nothing fancy, just a good solid short block rebuild. I'd add the timing stuff and head, and install in the car.Thanks.Carl :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5836-cost-to-build-an-l24-short-block-usa/ Share on other sites

April 25, 200321 yr comment_35214 I copied this from my rebuild spreadsheet-Gasket set $79.95Piston Ring Set, Std $39.95Main Bearing, Std $49.95Rod Bearing, Std $39.95Oil seal, timing cover $4.95Oil seal, rear main $8.95These are just parts. Since I made a list of the parts, I've decided to add new rod and main bolts but haven't entered them yet so I dont have a price for those. Add this to the price of tanking/machining and assembly if you can't do it yourself. All shops charge different for machining but I expect to pay about $1000 total for the short block. April 25, 200321 yr comment_35217 just did it on an L28. About $250 in parts, $150 to get the block cleaned/honed at a local shop here in Texas...So about $400 if you have all the tools and books already and do it yourself.
