March 30, 20187 yr comment_546094 I believe the bonnet (aka hood) stay on left is further evidence the S30 was designed for North America It goes back even before the first 432R that raced in Japan on Jan 18, 1970 (below) ,,, with triple Webers no less. Hopefully you won't get clipped by any passing traffic when you are messing about with your bonnet/hood stay. I mess with mine whilst I'm standing on the kerb. Just copy-paste the single link and it should work only once. Maybe it's a bug, who knows. Just keep posting the videos and I can fix it... no need to worry about it. March 30, 20187 yr comment_546130 Jeff, I guess your boss will have to ride shotgun and do all the roadside work... or you can trade for one of these cars as serviced on the road by the JAF http://www.jaf.or.jp/e/road_s_info.htm Seriously though, you can probably relocate the stay/prop to the other side ... you certainly have the skills! March 30, 20187 yr Author comment_546163 It has been brought to my attention, that it is more than likely to get the driver out of traffic, when opening it on the side of the road. Also the fact that I need to track down the torsion bars for the bonnet and then it should stay up with out the stat anyway Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58542-home-built-z-full-video-build/?&page=9#findComment-546163 Share on other sites
April 6, 20186 yr Author comment_546782 This week I get stuck in to do the final alignment of all the panels and start the body filler. It is a slow process, but if I want it done right I need to take my time and keep plugging away at it. April 13, 20186 yr Author comment_547251 This week I learned a lot more about engine rebuilding and I lapped the valves. I then needed to work out my engines compression which meant CC'ing the combustion chambers. April 13, 20186 yr comment_547261 You might want to tinker with one of the datsun engine calculators. Your ratio is pretty low but I don't know what your local fuel is like. I know alot of guys build closer to 10:1 with the right cam Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58542-home-built-z-full-video-build/?&page=9#findComment-547261 Share on other sites
April 13, 20186 yr comment_547263 Good stuff! Attached is a tool for engine planning. Below is your basic config entered. The 53.6cc chamber volume can be edited to 53.5 to match yours. As mentioned above, a good 0.080" shave (cc's at 46) will bring up the compression to ~ 9.7 which these engines seem to enjoy. April 13, 20186 yr Author comment_547288 I shaved 1mm off the head and I actually stuffed up the calculation, as I didn't add the combustion chamber volume to the swept volume, so it is more like 9.57:1. 459 + 53.5 = 512.5 512.5 / 53.5 = 9.57 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58542-home-built-z-full-video-build/?&page=9#findComment-547288 Share on other sites
