Hardway Posted September 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2017 I have a '83 280zx Turbo T5 transmission in my '72 240z. It currently has a non-metal flange seal that looks like the seal Beck Arnely sells. It is leaking and based on my research, the correct seal is the SKF 13958 with the metal flange. Before I order it, does the flange go on the outside of the transmission tail housing or inside? Does anyone have a picture of one installed? I posted a picture of the seal below from the net. Thanks!

Hardway Posted September 28, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Thank you for the pictures zKars! I see now. The transmission side of the seal is raised. It was hard to tell in the picture until I took a much closer look at it. Now I know what to do. Edited September 28, 2017 by Hardway

I bought mine on eBay for $23.90 plus S&H, however there are none on eBay right now. A quick Google search reveals RockAuto has 3 for $13.80/ea plus shipping and Amazon has them for around $30 shipped.
d9inger Posted June 9, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 9, 2018 Well thank you for the quick reply, I saw them on Rockauto and wondered if they were the right ones. I just ordered one from Rock. Thanks again. d9

I used really big socket to tap mine in. Most press kits do not allow enough depth for the output shaft.
d9inger Posted June 13, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2018 I am absolutely thrilled to have found one. I was trying to figure out how to use the seal I bought from O'Reilly's that didn't have the bell housing on it... but fit the shaft and the transmission housing. I was going to grind out the internals on the old seal bell housing and JB weld it to the transmission after I installed the O'Reilly's seal. Not necessary now ! ?
