Looking for first Z car

Hi guys. It's amazing to see such a large bunch of people dedicated to the Z car series. Anyway, I'm live in Brisbane and am looking at buying my first 240Z. I just had a few questions that I thought you guys could help out with.

Because they don't come up very often I wasn't too sure what price I can expect to pay. I'm probably looking around the $8000 to $10,000 mark for something in good to excellent condition. Is this reasonable?

Also, what should I be looking for in a 240Z. Are they prone to rust in certain areas? gearbox problems? or anything like that.

It would be great if someone could give me some advice.

Nathan

Rust is one of the bigger issues as all the mechanicals can be replaced fairly cheaply.

Have a look in the paint and body forum for the rust problems another fellow australian Z'er had: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6346

Chassis rail rust is the most important to watch out for IMHO, other panel rust can easly be cut and new metal welded in.

Nathan, you may wish to get Alan Stean of the Z Car Workshop at Underwood to check over any 240Z you are interested in buying. He is a straight bloke and won't rip you off. He also occasionally has a car for sale, it won't do any harm anyway to let him know of your requirements. Tell him that Richard recommended him.

And check out our club. www.zcarclubq.org.au

Hi Nathan, welcome to the boards mate. Did you happen to go to the Z Nationals last weekend. There were some nice cars there and you could have learned a bit from some of the veterans.

This board has really helpful people too so you've come to the right place.

If you are willing to travel check out the link in my sig. I've just put my car up for sale and it matches your criteria perfectly.

Goodluck all the same.

My car is for sale, but it's in the bracket just below that one ROFL I live on the Gold Coast, but it really depends if you want to spend extra $$$ to get one that's perfect or keep the extra $$$ and get one that's a little rough around the edges :)

If you want to spend more money ThatOzzyGuy's car is worth a look - very clean and original.

Welcome to the club!!!

I missed the Nationals in Brisbane. I only found out yesterday! Bummer. There seems to be a few aussies contributing a lot to this webpage. I've just been surfing the other topics in the forums and there is TONS of information. If you're interested in the Z this is definitely the place to be. Keep up the great work!
