Posted October 28, 20177 yr comment_533511 Hi guys, im having an issue with my startup, whenever i start it up it revs out of control and im forced to stop it because it seems like its going full throttle Info: Twin SU Carbs Smog Equipment removed L24 Block N42 Head And sometimes it revs all the way, stops, air pops out of the carb then it revs back up again almost to red line and continues Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58826-startup-revs-out-of-control/ Share on other sites
October 28, 20177 yr comment_533514 Have you recently messed with the linkage in between the carbs? I had that happen when I took mine off and didn't reinstall those flats or stops in the right order. The ones with the screw and spring. October 28, 20177 yr Author comment_533523 This is what happens, i suspect the carbs are letting in too much fuel IMG_3187[1].MOV Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58826-startup-revs-out-of-control/#findComment-533523 Share on other sites
October 28, 20177 yr comment_533525 I'm on my phone so not seeing the video. You appear to have put new boots on the choke cables. Maybe the wires are too short. If I remember right from the locking barrel at the ends it should measure 2" to hold down for the cable. When full choke is on it measures 1 1/4". Also feel the bottom and see if the nozzles are up or down. I'm just guessing at things that I've had trouble with. Good luck. October 29, 20177 yr Author comment_533549 The choke doesnt seem to be the problem the jets are fully up, is it possible that the new fuel pump i have has too much fuel pressure and is giving too much gas. I know theres something wrong with the carbs or the pump, would it be worth while to get some new ones Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/58826-startup-revs-out-of-control/#findComment-533549 Share on other sites
October 29, 20177 yr comment_533552 I'm a very frugal thinking guy so if it were mine I would try and pinch the supply fuel line coming out of the fuel filter to lower the psi before buying new parts. Or make a sharp bend by hand in the supply hose and see what effect that has. You could do that while it's running at high rpms. See if it comes down. Is it the OE mechanical pump off the cam nose or do you have an electric pump.
