Posted November 21, 20177 yr comment_535492 I picked up a Series 1 Blue/blue that the original owner had raced back in the day. He was an SCCA guy and was preparing it to vintage race when he passed away. The car came with a modified air cleaner. Can anyone tell me the purpose? More air flow? Thanks! November 21, 20177 yr comment_535494 You are correct! The ITS racers are very creative with modifications to gain performance. I have what is left of one in my shed that only left enough metal to cover the air filter and hold the filter.Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59013-air-cleaner-modification/#findComment-535494 Share on other sites
November 21, 20177 yr comment_535502 I have one that has all the horizontal housing cut out. With a Nissan metal filter it looks like a good idea. I can't imagine that much more air flow for my road car so I run the OEM with the summet/winter flap. I'll post a picture or two in the a.m when I'm using my laptop. November 21, 20177 yr comment_535507 Rebello suggested a series of holes on the top of the stock housing to increase air flow. Not on the bottom where the air was hotter and perhaps dirtier. I sold that housing and the K&N filter after I moved up to triples. Those get an ITG foam filter, not an airbox because that lost me 10+ HP. November 21, 20177 yr comment_535517 The PO of my ITS race car modified the base plate to use a couple of aluminum drinking cups as a set of long air horns.
