Hey guys I have a early 260z . I jumped the battery backwards now I have no power anywhere. I took a look at the fuse box on the right side kick panel nothing looks melted. Also took a look at the black fusible link for the battery it doesn't look like it melted as well. You think there might be a tear that is not visible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

To elaborate on what Patcon said, a fusible link has thicker insulation than regular wire. It could burn up inside, and you might not be able to tell visually.

OK thanks guys I checked the fusible link I'm getting a 10.3v reading.  Checked the fuse box in the right kick panel I'm getting no reading for ignition and light. I was getting 10.3v at the starter and alternator power connector. Any I ideas what I should check next?

Questions:

  1. There are two fusible links. Did you only check one?
  2. Did you check on both sides of the link? Were the voltages the same?
  3. What is the voltage at the battery? At 10.3 volts, it looks like a bad battery or one in need of a good charging.
  4. What fuses did you check? Reference the attached picture.

I am starting to wonder if you didn't blow out your ammeter. If you did that, you would not have power at key circuits in the car. Measure voltage to ground on both ends of the green fusible link (shown as #2 in the attached picture).

Yeah my battery is measuring at 10.3v I'll try to charge it today. The green fusible link for the ignition is also reading 10.3 on both sides. Thanks for the reference I checked the fuses again looks like I'm not getting any reading at the ampmeter fuses or the ignition interlock 2 fuses. Would those be signs of a bad ammeter?

you need to explain exactly how you are reading the voltage "on both sides".

should be battery voltage from chassis to one side and chassis to the other side.

should be ZERO voltage if you are connecting the meter to each side of the fuse link.

I was checking the reading with a test light with a voltmeter so I had it hooked up to a body ground and was just checking for power at the fusible link on both ends OK thanks Dave  I'll try with a digital multimeter tonight.
