January 9, 20187 yr comment_539290 Dave, Did you ever measure the resistance the sensor drops to while hot? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-539290 Share on other sites
January 9, 20187 yr comment_539297 I am thinking it was in the 300-500 range, but that is IIRC.. Pretty sure 12/500 .024amp should keep it off. Could just get a 1k pot and see where to go from there. then use the high resistance reading for the starting point. “Negative Temperature Coefficient”. NTC thermistors are resistors with a negative temperature coefficient, which means that the resistance decreases with increasing temperature For liability reasons I don't know if its a good idea to make a recommendation. I think the OP should be able to make up his own mind from here what would be the best course of action. January 9, 20187 yr Author comment_539300 yup, all the information I need, thanks guess I will spend some time hunting a OEM replacement. I promise to characterize it when i get one , have all equipment here (stabilized thermal bath, heaters and propper measuring devices). Thanks guys! to summarize for those who do not like to read Edited January 9, 20187 yr by Villeman Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-539300 Share on other sites
January 9, 20187 yr comment_539301 This may not be feasible for you being in Europe, but as an option there are specialty repair places here in the States. I have not used any of them so I can't really vouch for them. Might be a "if all else fails" remedy. http://tristarrradiator.com http://www.bobsspeedometer.com/1/120/services.asp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-539301 Share on other sites

April 27, 20186 yr comment_548108 I´ve the exact same problem and as I´m in germany too I've no chance to get it rebuild. Do you`ve and update and would recommend that 1k ntc DIY thing. Which one you bought exactly? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-548108 Share on other sites
April 27, 20186 yr comment_548110 I have a crazy idea! When the gas gauge gets close to E, put more gas in the tank. Don't worry about the light that tells you the same thing. Sorry, couldn't resist. Now that I've had my fun at your expense, maybe there is a sender with that part in my collection. Somewhere..... April 27, 20186 yr comment_548111 Fuel too expensive over here I'm always driving on fumes Haha, but my resistor is also damaged - I was hoping to fix at least one type of fuel "measuring" device. Still have to disassemble it, I guess a bit of bending and re soldering will fix the resistor of the float. April 28, 20186 yr comment_548132 Haven't read the whole thread, sorry. Nissan still sales them for the fork lifts, same part but you'll need to bend the rod to match OE. Here's the p/n's Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-548132 Share on other sites
April 28, 20186 yr comment_548153 Thanks I'll call my local nissan dealer next week, lets see. Than at least the gauge is working - the lamp is not sooo important. As the sender is mounted in the top of the fuel tank in a 78 280z its easy to mess around with it on a later state anyway Edited April 28, 20186 yr by PrincePaul Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59324-fuel-tank-sending-unit/?&page=2#findComment-548153 Share on other sites
