Posted May 1, 200321 yr comment_35810 i need help! i finally got my Z running with the dellortos, and she sounds cool!!!! however, one problem....when i punch the gas, it bogs horribly bad and tries to stall. if i accelerate slowly, it works ok. both of these are under no load.under load, around 2500-3000 rpm's it just stops accelerating and looses all power. if i put in the clutch and pump the gas, eventually she catches and then takes off like no tomorrow!i believe the emulsion tubes are too lean for the application. does anyone know where to buy them or does anyone have some they'd be willing to sell??? i tried CB Performance in california. ordered tubes and filters. today, i just get filters and find out that they don't sell the tubes anymore! couldn't believe they actually let me order them to begin with if they didn't have them, or that they are listed on their site. i called them today, sounds like they've been out for a while. i've had probs with these guys with other orders, but they are the only ones i can find with dellorto parts:mad: you think they'd call to let you know the story beforehand, ya know?does anyone have any suggestions? May 2, 200321 yr comment_35851 long time since I had mine , but ...check your pump jets and stroke before dumping your em tubes, much more likely to be a problem there - i ended going DOWN in pump size and up in stroke, for better progression.do a search on Dellortos, I posted my old settings in carb forum - theres plenty of knowledge about them, too.good luck, you'll love them once you get them tuned - but it does take a bit of patience! May 2, 200321 yr comment_35865 I also have triple Ds - and experienced the same issue at first. I agree you should check the accelorator pump stroke - I found this critical in removing the bog. Remember also that idle jets are important as well - they are always dumping fuel - larger ones may be needed. Time, patience, and check your spark plugs! lean can be more than bad - but expensive. One more thing - check that you don't have an intake leak. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5939-help-me/#findComment-35865 Share on other sites
May 2, 200321 yr Author comment_35887 thanks guys, i'll give this a shot tonight. how are these jets measured? do the sizes go up by half mm at a time? unfortunatly, at this time at least, my Z is my daily driver (until i find another car this summer), and i'm out of college in a week. sooooo........ getting her running 'good enough' is kinda at the top of my list right now:stupid: i'll find my jet settings that i currently have now and post them tonight to see what u guys think... May 3, 200321 yr comment_36002 Most looks good - depending on your engine. Is this a engine factory - any mods? I would suggest that the choke tubes are too small - but that depends on many factors.Q Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5939-help-me/#findComment-36002 Share on other sites
May 4, 200321 yr Author comment_36114 right now, yes, she is a stock motor. i know they won't give me anything over the EFI for now, but, in the future i am planning on an overbore, flat tops, cam, headers, etc... i was out driving her this weekend ( ) and, around 1/4-2/3 throttle there is a horrible flat spot, it doesn't matter on engine RPM's. however, if i go past it, she takes off. is this from the idle jet being too small? i talked to some people around town, they said to adjust the accel pump for more stroke. also, she has a slight lack of top end power. my father is a machinist, he said that he would take the chokes into work and size them to 32mm (up from the 30mm). i also checked the plugs, looks to be running lean... May 5, 200321 yr comment_36174 don't stop at 32mm, machine those chokes right out to 36mm! may not be any venturi left, but hey, look at the extra air they'll let in! maybe even try some from a Holley carb ..and despite what anyone has said, under no account check your accelerator pump settings!
