Back in 1937 she was ALMOST the first woman to fly around the world. She disappeared somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean. Supposedly got lost while looking for the small island she was supposed to land an refuel upon. Splash! End of story.

In 1964 Geraldine "Jerri" Mock became the first woman to fly "solo" around the world. Her single-engine Cessna 180 was called the Spirit of Columbus.
