Posted February 18, 20187 yr comment_542603 Today I had the very dubvirus "pleasure" of replacing the clutch master on the 71, The old one ( marked Nibco Japan and I believe it's the original, For a fact it wasn't replaced at least since the very early 90's )started leaking from the back. Picked one up from Oreillys and pulled the master out, compared the 2 and there is a significant length difference between the two.....the original is about 3/4 of an inch longer. So I need to swap the shafts.....but I got no snap ring pliers on hand, went to a local oil change shop and one of the techs graciously let me use his. Question is...is this a fluke or all the clutch masters sold today are like that?...wrong out of the box. February 18, 20187 yr comment_542604 This one from MSA was a direct swap and perfect fit. I also replaced the slave at the same time. If you do the slave make sure you get the correct one. The stock '71 has an adjustable plunger and return spring. KEEP YOUR SPRING, it's no longer available. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/21-2091 http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic22b01d/21-2101 Edited February 18, 20187 yr by w3wilkes Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59560-clutch-master-cyl-replacement-problem/#findComment-542604 Share on other sites

February 18, 20187 yr comment_542615 I had the same problem a few years ago on a 98 rav4. I managed to get a rod from a used Nissan Z clutch master that worked fine. Many common Japanese car parts are interchangeable between vehicles as the manufacturer is usually not the brand on the car.
