April 2, 20187 yr comment_546462 so what would be ok a "fuel strainer" I know my tank has no sock, and there is junk I can see in the G3. something like this as a before pump "strainer" https://www.klmperformance.com/inline-fuel-line-strainer-prefilter.html I am going to get one and see how well it works. In tank filters come with a Filter sock. As mentioned those work well. They are a coarse filter and relatively non-restrictive. Being 80 to 120 Microns in size. I've never see a factory installed prefilter on any car? Has anyone? How do you know the size of the pores of the in-tank strainer? April 2, 20187 yr comment_546494 My 95 suburban had one on the fuel pick up of the in tank pump. My Z3's have them on the pick ups too Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59806-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-546494 Share on other sites

Most tanks have the sock/strainer. But they're not really fine enough to be called filters. That's why Nissan calls them a strainer, and the filter a filter. I think. Microns are small. I tried to find the EF mention but couldn't. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59806-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-546496 Share on other sites
April 2, 20187 yr comment_546499 I think I found the G3 spec at 5 microns, the fuel strainer I am going to try is 20microns, I would like to run with out it but since my sock is missing, I feel I need something in front of the pump. I tried looking for 100 micron strainers, there were a few but all seemed to have AN fittings which I did not want to figure out. April 2, 20187 yr comment_546501 100 microns is almost .004" so not crazy small. That's larger than the diameter of most normal (not thin) hair... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59806-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-546501 Share on other sites
April 3, 20187 yr comment_546502 Just wanted to know where the "fact" that the socks are 80-120 microns came from. The source of the information. A verified number that people can use to specify the type of media that they want to place in front of their pump. And conflating filters with strainers is where people get screwed up. It's the basis for the original collapsing G3 story. CM, are people you offer tuning advice to "customers"? Sounds like you have a business but I think that you're just offering free support to people over the internet. Is there a business behind it? Just verifying. It's my nature. Someone was not at all happy with " Mr. Gasket "...... Madkaw had an issue with one I think. I've run them on everything from low psi Mercury outboards to 36 Psi on my 280 before the fpr to check for pink colored fuel on my '77. No leaks. I have them on everything but my Camry and Exmark mower without issue since the late '80s. Just change the screens. I've been lucky I guess? April 3, 20187 yr comment_546516 Went out and found a picture of a 1986 300ZX intank pump with the screen encapsulating the pickup area. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1986,300zx,3.0l+v6,1209563,fuel+&+air,fuel+pump,6256 It's what people should try to be replicating, or be trying to replicate (grammar lockup in my brain,) if they poke a hole in their in tank sock. Don't know the specs but there's a lot of surface area. So you can go with either hose barbs or AN fittings as you wish. 175 GPH : https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hly-162-553 100 GPH: https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hly-162-551 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59806-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-546527 Share on other sites
April 3, 20187 yr comment_546530 looks like I pulled the trigger too fast on the 24 micron, I should have looked more closely at your link. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59806-what-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-546530 Share on other sites
