Posted May 5, 200321 yr comment_36132 I'd like to get some input about this. It seems to me, that boring out the cylinders to take larger pistons while keeping the stock stroke would allow the engine to spin faster more easily; since it would create even more of an oversquare condition. If any of you guys have done this, let me know what you observed. Thanks. May 5, 200321 yr comment_36170 7.4% increase in sv , offset by increased inertia of heavier pistons?I dont think I'd do a piston swap just for that. May 6, 200321 yr comment_36290 Isn't that what a L26 is? Boy, I now I cannot remember if the 260 is a bored or stroked L24!!?? Time to review the books! May 6, 200321 yr comment_36296 the L26 is stroked. putting in L28 pistons gives 2569cc ( of the L engine calculator) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5987-l28-pistons-in-a-l24-block/#findComment-36296 Share on other sites
May 6, 200321 yr comment_36298 and you'll need 240 rods and flat top pistons to get some sort of usable compression. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5987-l28-pistons-in-a-l24-block/#findComment-36298 Share on other sites
May 6, 200321 yr comment_36299 Thanks for saving me the trouble, too many Z parts in front of the workbench (where the manuals are) right now! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5987-l28-pistons-in-a-l24-block/#findComment-36299 Share on other sites
May 7, 200321 yr Author comment_36478 I was thinking that this might be a way to get an engine that would rev faster, and give the potential for nice top end horsepower; I'm not looking for a 1/4 mile machine, this car will run on a road course. This is my goal from the start with my (future) Z project car. I know that wider pistons and shorter stroke allows for a theoretically higher redline, since the acelleration of the piston is lower than a long stroke motor; leading me to ponder whether or not this would be a good idea. May 7, 200321 yr comment_36479 yeah its a good idea, it will give you more power up high as long as your intake setup can supply the air and fuel needed with the bigger capacity. though if your going to that sort of trouble you should use an l28 engine and bore that out.
