Popular Post Dave WM Posted April 29, 2018 Popular Post Share #1 Posted April 29, 2018 took Dat Boi (my nickname for my 75 z) to Smiths Station AL for a family visit, 400 miles each way, avg 75-85 depending on interstate traffic. slower up hiway 280. Avg 25 MPG, found a ethanol free GATEs filling station at mile 439 in Florida on I 75 for those interested in where to get gas. No problems at all until the return trip. It was hot and I was running the AC, Stopped at the Gainesville rest stop and noticed carpet on driver side was damp, pulled it up and found it soaked from the tunnel on down. A quick taste test (yum) showed no signs of antifreeze so I figured must have been the condensate. I was not in a good position to work on it, so turned off the AC and drove the 70 or so miles with out it. Looked thru my stash and found the coupler needed (EVAP box to drain pipe) to replace the broken one. got all the carpet and jute out and thoroughly dried the driver, lifted up the carpet on the tunnel and ran a fan all night on it to help air it out. took a ride with AC on, drove for about 20 miles and when home I could see the water dripping out of the drain pipe, YAY, and the tunnel and floor board was completely dry. Hopefully that is the end of the leak problems, I am looking forward to more long trips. These shake down trips seem just the ticket to find little problems.

Different subject but I guess you don't have any oil leaks from the engine seals or pan? My front main I just recently replaced. But I still have a pan leak from the looks of it otherwise I would take mine on longer trips. Really, I guess I shouldn't worry so much about the small leaks. Captain Obvious Posted April 30, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2018 Well if you just put in almost an thousand miles in a road-trip and the only thing that went wrong was that your condensate drain leaked, I'd say you're doing pretty good! RCB, the drain tube is right below the HVAC assembly. A little left of center, like below the temperature control slider. There's a piece of rubber tubing attached to the evaporator box, and there's supposed to be a grommet in the transmission tunnel. The tube fits snug into the grommet and directs the water to the ground instead of the interior of the car.
Dave WM Posted April 30, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted April 30, 2018 when replacing the rear main did you note any leakage at the side seals? you can see it with the flywheel out of the way. looks like this
Dave WM Posted April 30, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted April 30, 2018 also is the leak near the rear of the pan? the side seal will look like a pan gasket leak at the rear.
rcb280z Posted April 30, 2018 Share #6 Posted April 30, 2018 Thanks CO. I remember now. That's what has me concerned Dave. The leak is at the back of the pan. So.......
Dave WM Posted April 30, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted April 30, 2018 def consider those side seals, that was what did it for me, dry as a bone back there now. you can do it with the trans installed, just work the side seal and pan gasket at the same time. Get the car up safely with plenty of room to work, take your time, clean the surfaces real well and follow the FSM on location. Think I mentioned before, don't let the sealant setup before reinstalling the bearing retaining block, or maybe use an anaerobic type of sealant (have not tried that myself but sounds like an excellent idea). Dave WM Posted April 30, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) Ordered up some new jute (mac's) will use the old one as a pattern as it was pretty beat up where you heel rides on the floor board. The OE carpet looks pretty good, some of the rubber backing is missing and or cracking off. Would like to refurb that, may go with some kind of spray on flexable backing. Maybe plastidip spray.
