That Ozzy Guy Posted May 5, 2003 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2003 Just bought this set of sexy mirrors for the Z. Can't wait to get them on but they are not on my priority list. Need to get the car on the road first. What other mirrors, other than stock, do you guys think suit the 240/260? Cheers
Gav240z Posted May 5, 2003 Share #2 Posted May 5, 2003 I've seen these mirrors on Z's before but looking at the shape of the mirrors I couldn't stand looking at them sorry. My mate has nice ones there from autobarn but. www.geocities.com/spized1969/ I think there called Californian Racing not sure...Personally I like the bullet style mirrors found on the ZG style cars. I wanna put ZG style on my car after I get the doors sorted out cause i'll be getting the rust removed so the holes where the current mirrors are will be filled. See my Gallery for what I'm talking about.:classic: Those XY mirrors arn't all bad just the inner shape so you'll be the one who has to put up with them. No need to be sorry, you be looking at them. I know what you mean about the mirror shape but I love them. Personally I've yet to see a better looking mirror, old or new. My other Z has XY ripp-offs which you might find interesting. They look similar on the outside but the mirror shape is wider which makes it easier to see through. I'll take a pic tomorrow to show you.
Mr Camouflage Posted May 5, 2003 Share #4 Posted May 5, 2003 I like the mirrors Simon DeGroot has on his yellow 240z, and would like to know what they are and where he got them so i can get some for my 240.
Gav240z Posted May 5, 2003 Share #5 Posted May 5, 2003 These are those mirrors Simon has. Unless someone says otherwise I'd just never seen the actual glass part shape. I really like my mates Californian ones there egg shaped very smooth. I might change my mind on these mirros I've been looking at them a few times and do like the look they present to anyone not driving or inside the car. How much roughly do you think these XY Falcon mirrors cost?? Are they readily available from a wrecker? Still wanna do the ZG thing.
Alfadog Posted May 5, 2003 Share #6 Posted May 5, 2003 Yeah, the bullet style mirrors are fantastic. So THOSE were the mirrors I saw a few cars at the show with... look pretty decent, but aren't wide enough for my liking personally. Pic of my mirror, apparantly Escort Mk. 2 mirror according to Cuong. I think it's great can't say the same for the quality of the digital camera................................ 26ounce Posted May 5, 2003 Share #8 Posted May 5, 2003 Ivan : I think my side mirror looked like that picture about 20 years ago, now it has gone an ugly pitted dark grey colour because all the chrome has come off. Must have been cheapies!Anyway I have been looking for replacement mirrors from recent cars for a while now, the type that attach to the door panel and not the window frame. Here is my picks so far:Late model Mitsubishi Magna : bit big Misubishi FTO : very similar to the MagnaMazda MX-5 : great except the early modelsMazda RX-7 : The first series have pretty good seventies style mirrors, the rest are good too.Honda S2000 : Great but probably expensiveBMW Z3 : Great but probably expensiveDaewoo Matiz : Jury is still out on these onesHonda Legend : OK but big and rareHyundai Grandeur : Look OKToyota Supra (last model) : Great but probably expensiveThats most of the ones out there at the moment I think. That Ozzy Guy Posted May 6, 2003 Author Share #9 Posted May 6, 2003 Gavin, if you find an XY mirror at the wreckers please let me know cause I'll buy the car that they came on. I bought mine from Rare Spares who stock them all the time from what the guy told me. They were AU$230 for the pair. Retail was $121 each. The good thing about them is they are an alloy mirror so the paint on them will not fade like it does on platic mirrors and no way will they brake.I don't know about you guys but the mirror shape doesn't bother me one bit as I never use it (side mirrors). I think mirrors are handy but a very bad habbit to rely on them. Blind spots are deadly so I always look over my shoulder. Even if I'm on the freeway and I know there is no one behind me, I look over my shoulder when changing lanes. Habbit I guess.btw, Simon's mirrors are XY's too. I've just had a look at some video footage I took at the Nationals and I'm 99% sure they are tear drops.
Alfadog Posted May 6, 2003 Share #10 Posted May 6, 2003 Mmm... now that you mention it... I can't remember that last time I used my side mirrors! LMAOI still prefer mine :tapemouth :cheeky:
26ounce Posted May 6, 2003 Share #11 Posted May 6, 2003 I use mine a lot in winter, mostly because i haven't got around to fixing the rear demist yet:ermm: Not that it is a problem at the moment with the Z high and dry and waiting for funds. That Ozzy Guy Posted May 6, 2003 Author Share #12 Posted May 6, 2003 Lachlan, your mirrors are the same ones I have on my other Z. The mirror part is wider and more user friendly while retaining the tear drop style. I think the tear drops are one of the most copied mirrors ever. Now, I wonder who Ford copied them from.
