gday guys,

the exhaust on my car is a 2 1/2 inch steam bent with one resonator and a straight through glasspack muffler. needless to say its louder than a jet plane :finger:

im looking for a system that has a similar flow capacity but is ALOT quieter, any suggestions?

centre straight through or centre offset straight through muffler?

I read a review where the genie tornoda muffler in centre offset congifguration was both one of the best flowing and quietest in the smaples tested, autospeed review i think it was.

Apparently so, check out the results.

For my zed I am thinking about using a centre offset rear muffler such as the genie tornado and perhaps a centre straight through muffler midway, or perhaps another centre offset.

Another muffler is more desrved that a thinner resonator I think.

I would say for quiet driving it is never ever going to be totally wisper stuff because of the cars design and where we all sit.

I will say for the quiet the under tail shaft flow thru is a must.

For the rear position, I normally got thru mufflers to get the right one at replacement time. Last change in Dec 02, I settled for the MERCURY glasspack 2 1/2 center in offset out. Nice around town, crisp in traffic, still gets loud above 4400 with power on.

cheers

Im basing that on my current car (4 cylinder). I got an EPA notice in the mail and I spent some time stuffing around with a baffled resonator, then 2 straight through resonators, adding a 2nd proper muffler was the only thing that made a big difference in the end.

just got a quote from lambros hi-tech mufflers for a full 2.5 inche mandrel system with two hi-tech brand mufflers 880 AUS. they reckon they can keep it quiet while maintaining the flow of my current straight through system. what do you think?

Is that stainless? If so it sounds decent

Stainless mufflers ~$200 ea.

Stainless piping ~$450

Mild piping ~$250

HiTech are known to be expensive, and thats even in Melbourne where we dont have them :)

yep , stainless from the extractors back, they use their own brand mufflers, i dont know how they can quiet a car right down while keeping the flow of a regular straight through system. ill give it a try, we'll see what happens.
