May 7, 200321 yr comment_36599 I noticed a fair amout of rust in the front of that hood there. My opinion stay away from it. To repair any rust at the front of the hood is not easy and probably not worth while. You can still get new hoods (bonnets) from Nissan new. Approx ~ $600 I got mine second hand after some num nuts reversed into it. Paid a good price $250 and $250 for paint from Warren at Zworx. His Number is 9587 5500 that is if your after a new bonnet. Not sure if you were just after a spare straight one.I'm actually going down there now to see him so I'll see if there's any straight ones there for you. Last time there was a straight unvented one with a small crease under the bonnet on the structural support you know if you look at the underside of the bonnet and around the outside perimeter there's a beam all around with those little circular holes well it had a small bend in the metal there but the rest was perfect. He said he'd sell me it real cheap so.....Anyway PM me if you want about it.:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/6037-possible-damage/?&page=2#findComment-36599 Share on other sites
May 8, 200321 yr Author comment_36606 Yeh if you could let me know what they have it would be great, or if they have any more 2 seaters being wrecked other than that blue one thats been out front for ages.My bonnet is skewed, it had been in an accident before by the look of it. It seems fairly straight now though but it fouls the guards when trying to close it, I think its the hinges. Also when it does close, the front end sits up high and need to be pushed down.Im in no real rush for a new bonnet as the car isnt exactly moving, but if a parts car came with a good one it would be an obvious bonus. May 10, 200321 yr comment_36880 i seem to have a slight bit of this going on on my hood, i would suspect it was from someone leaving a screw driver on the little front frame section thingy then tried really hard to close the hood and what i ended up with was a nice little dent similar to the ones you go there, but i know my hood isnt stock because the car had a good little wreck some time ago for sure and it has vents and stuff, and lots of surface rust, but that is easy to deal with when you have a handy dandy sand blaster! :classic: -Zach Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/6037-possible-damage/?&page=2#findComment-36880 Share on other sites
May 17, 200321 yr comment_37792 There is no crease in the bonnet (hood), the mark is from the rubber strip that runs along the seam in front of the radiator. Check it out, I'll bet you all have one! May 17, 200321 yr comment_37800 You're right Nigel, I only noticed mine a.couple weeks ago. Not very observant. Thought about painting the bare metal(my obsessive side), but fortunately my laid back side said: "Why paint it when the wiping action of the seal will continue to keep rust from forming as long as I keep opening and closing the hood", which apparently won't be a problem judging from the frequency of repair on these Zs. Just kidding. Victor.ps Have wondered what purpose that seal serves. With all the other openings around the front of the engine compartment, what is it sealing? Some obscure aerodynamic trick? May 19, 200321 yr comment_37962 Yeah, that's what I thought the reason might be, but with the other paths for the air to travel around the radiator(the round holes to the sides) it didn't seem like a 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap at the top would be significant. But then I can't imagine Datsun would have gone to that effort for nothing. Maybe. I think I have too much time on my hands. Victor.
