High beams

This might seem like a stupid question, but do our Zs have a seperate high/low beam function? When I turn the light switch to position one, I get running lights, and headlights only come on in position 2. Am I missing something? I haven't done a lot of night driving yet so I haven't messed with it yet but I see lots of people posting about high beams and low beams. Maybe I am missing a switch or something?

Andrew, on the stork on the left of the steering wheel (the one thats also for the indicators) if you move the stork towards you will select hi beam, do it again and you'll select lo beam again. You'll notice that when hi beam is slected a blue light will come on on the rev counter, letting you know its on.

Also - thre is a button on that stork press it and the headlights will flash.

I am talking about the turn signal switch lever, on the top, well at least on my 73 240z, you will notice a button.. when you push it the lights come on and when you let go the lights go off.. used when you flash somone to get out the way or to thank them or to say hi to a fellow Z driver :)

I have a 73, but mine doesn't have the button on the turn signal swich:cry: Just the thing you pull to switch to high beam

The stork is the turn signal lever. I believe you may have referring to it as a STALK like in a flower stalk, one of those funny words that make it sound as if an "R" instead of an "L", is in use.

However, on the Passing Light Switch you are addressing, I don't recall the U.S. 240's having that switch and relay. In those days, most American drivers would have been totally befuddled by it. Even today, I've had people ask how I flashed my headlights only, in my Acura or Subaru (those cars have the passing light relay).

I have one of those. "240Z" I found a complete column mounted switch unit in a 260Z, 2 by 2. I grabbed it because it was in good condition and the button was on the end of the indicator stork and the best bit, for $5.00 AUS from my local wrecker in Brisbane. I wreckon I got a steal. My 240Z did not come standard with this option. It now lives in my spares cupboard

Well, that sure was simple!

Seems like every manufacturer does it different. My 72 does not have the flash button, just the switch between high/low when pulling the t/s stalk.
