Rubber gloves are ok, but I have found that petrol affects them (they dissolve) and the rattle gun gets you in a hell of a tangle, so are the mechanix gloves going to catch on the rattle gun/drill/grinder and get me into trouble or not?

what the heck is a rattle gun ??? these gloves are made of a spandex type of material that streches and is covered over the palm and fingers withe a rubber type material that grips well and is thin enough to allow dexterity, but thick to avoid some injury to t he hands . If a wrench slipps I dont bang my knuckles or cut my hands , I keep a pair in the spair tire well in the Z , and one in the truck , just in case I have to change a flat . If I am working on the car they protect my hands from the dirt grease or what ever . They are not heat proof but help if working on a hot engine. They dont seem efficeted by gas or oil. I clean mine whin I wash my hands with the gloves on with the orange hand cleaner then rince and let dry . I found mine at costco for 2 pair pack $24.00 In the parts store they run $19.00 each pair and up. they are a great product .

Rattle gun, the big compressor driven wrench, that makes the rattle/blap blap blap sound, only any good for undoing really rough stuff, and often does more damage than good. Just asking because I spent 5 minutes this morning trying to unwind myself after unsucessfully pulling the mags off the parts bin.

Well, the NASCAR pit crews use these gloves when doing Pit Stops, and they use "rattle guns". I doubt you'd have a problem.

PS I know what you mean about the rubber (Latex) gloves. When doing POR prep last summer, I got all tangled up in a drill moter cause the damn latex gloves disolved and snagged the spinning drill chuck.

:classic: rattle gun , here we call them an impact wrench , the gloves I am speaking of feel like you are wearing a leather work glove , only that you could still pick up a coin or washer with them on. they fit snuggly on the hands and will flex and streach with your movement. If you have ever had to change a fan belt on a hot engine or banged your knuckle against the fins of the radiater, you know the value of doing just that with zero injury. This is just a product that I found vary useful and thought I would pass on the information . :classic:

Sears has their brand of mechanics gloves on sale for $9.99. Probably ends tomorrow. If you are a "craftsman club" member, you can get them for $8.99. They feel pretty good, although I don't have a pair of the Mechanix brand gloves to compare.

Oh, and they are regularly $19.99.

You can order them on-line for shipment to you, OR you can order them on-line and pick them up at your local Sears Store and save the shipping and wait time. www.sears.com , do a search from their site for "Mechanics Gloves"

Just ordered two pair, one for my summer projects and one for future needs. Can't resist a bargain!

They were in stock at my local Sears here. I bought two pair as well this afternoon, and used the first while removing the left front brake hardware tonight. Felt pretty good - dexterity was pretty much still there, although I had trouble picking up the pad pin retaining clip off the floor when I dropped it. Better than cut and dirty hands, though!

Yeah, they were available at my local Sears too, but I was too lazy to go tonight, and they close tomorrow before I get off work, so I ordered online for pick up locally. Same price, no shipping, and I can take my time getting there.

Oh, Sears auctions some tools on eBay also. I bought a Craftsman 27mm Ratcheting Box-End Wrench for $11.01 and got free shipping to boot.

I use the craftsman gloves and love them. The only thing is they should have a warning on them for melting. The first time I broke out my gloves it was for working with a ( warm ) motor. Every thing was going good till the (leather LIKE) part of my glove brushed along the header. Then the part that hit the header melted like a plastic bag in a fire but on my finger:( . Yes I said some choice words. :tapemouth

I took them back to sears and they didnt even blink at the melted fingers. Just tossed a new pair at me and said "sorry about that."

Another trick I found with these goves. Buy them on the small side. Then put them in the wash on hot then the dryer on high heat. Get them out before they cool and put them on. They will almost form around your hand size as they cool and stay that way. This makes them fit so you can forget you even have gloves on.

Well the Idiots at Sears have out done themselves again! Got an email this afternoon informing me that they have cancelled my order for the gloves. Seems the local Sears didn't have any to put aside for me (even though they did an availability check when I placed the order). The email offered me the option of calling an 800 number to re-instate the order for mail delivery, so I did that, but now the fools say that they are out of stock for home delivery as well!

Inspite of the sale being effective until the close of business tonight, they will not accept orders, nor honor the orders that they previously accepted for these items. No "rain check offered either.

No wonder Sears, as a viable business, is going down the toilet.

Customer service seems to be a foreign concept to Sears.

FYI, I was just in Sears again a few minutes ago (for something unrelated), and the sale tag on the gloves say that the sale is good through 6/15. Sears here still has stock in all sizes. You might not care given their messing with you, but that's the scoop...
