Rewire with Relays?

Frank, I ran my headlight power though an auxillary harness controled by 2 Bosch/Hella 30 amp relays. Used nice, fat 10 gauge wire to run power, from the starter + post, with fusibles links, through the relays and to the lights. I'm making up these harnesses and will have the first batch ready to offer in the next three months.

What I'd like to see is something that plugs right in at the headlight connectors thereby eliminating the need to cut any wires in the engine compartment wiring harness.

I did just that. Cut a headlight bucket wire harness off of a parts car, and plugged that into the cars harness, the other ends was wired to the relays to provide the trip current to trigger them to work. I can umplug everything and go back to stock if I desired to.

Victor:

If this is something that can be added to a 240Z without cutting up the stock harness, you can count me in for a set. I've wanted to add relays for a long time, but I won't chop up my virgin wiring to do it.

PS I don't even know if what I want to accomplish is possible without cutting up the OEM wiring.

Hmm, I wonder if that could be done to a 240Z? Do you have any diagrams, or detailed pictures of what you did?

This is easier than everyone her seems to be making out, I wired up each side independantly with two relays per side so as to keep the factory redundancy and I get power off the Alternator + to keep the Ammeter working correctly. All you need to do is unplug the headlight lead and plug a small relay controls harness in. The plug is at the front of the car sitting on the valance. I'll take some photos tonight for you all.

That's exactly what I want to do. I just figure that the hardest part will be finding a copuple of connectors that match those from the factory. I've already got two relays and eveything else I need.

OzLime 240Z:

Have you had a chance to take some pictures yet? I, for one; am really interested in this mod.

This is the diagram I used. I'm not familiar enough wiith the 240 wiring to know if you have headlight bucket sub harnesses like the 280 does. That's the key to making it able to be unplugged.
