Need pics of INNER dog leg

Jughead

Recommended Posts

Fellow Zedheads,

I'm repairing my doglegs and want to fabricate the INNER dog leg as close to original as possible.  I can't find an image of a non-rusted inner dogleg.  (There are plenty of pics of rusted ones!).  Can anyone help? I've attached pics of mine for reference.  The piece I'm referring to is in front - with the jagged, rusty bottom.  Thanks!!

Wow!  Thanks for the great & speedy response!  I LOVE this forum!!  The image I needed is below.

@Diseazd:  See the 1st pic that I copied from you below.  Is that the original factory build? (It looks to be.) Also, I notice that there's a hole in the original outer rocker - right over the seat belt mount nut.  Is the hole stock too?

@240260280:  Any chance you still have the diagram/measurements that you used to make the panel indicated by the blue arrow? (2nd pic below.)  If so,  I'd be much obliged if you would pass it along.  I'll bet there a ton of Z freaks who would benefit from it!

Thanks again guys - really helpful,

Jughead

One of the members here used to make reproduction rockers, including what he referred to as tie in plates for the front and rear.  Not sure if he still does.  I bought the tie in plates and used them with my NOS rocker panels when I had mine replaced.  Take a look at this thread, especially post #12.

Jughead.....Yes the dogleg is a factory piece. I bought that piece from Danny’s Datsun (no longer is business). I’m not sure what year the dogleg is, but the car is a 71. We had them cut the dogleg forward of the seam so that would remain perfect. We also took care to keep the “dimples” on she edge of the inner fender to show that there was no rust in the metal......important not to fill those dimples IMO.

The shape in the panel makes it many times stronger than a flat piece of metal. Always remember car companies are always looking for ways to cut costs. If a flat piece of metal would have worked they would have never paid to make stampings to produce that panel.
