Looking for a 240z or 260z in the $500-$2000 range. Can anyone help me out?

About the only thing you'll find in that range is a parts car.  I have seen some really basket cases bring more than that lately. Good luck

I suppose I could work with it. I really want an s30 chassis and I was hoping to not have to do the patchwork after removing the bumpers.

You're not going to find much in that price range that doesn't have a whole lot more work to do than patching 280Z bumper shock holes.  Good luck though.

Do you think id be better off finding something in my price range if I were to start shopping 280s?

No. I did a quick look and didn't see anything under 6k. And its kinda rough looking. Maybe do a search for 280zx? Even then I doubt it.

I'm definitely looking for a project car. Nothing that would be drivable right away. That's why I hoped to find something a lot cheaper.

Then you need to have Patience, maybe you'll find something. Doubtful though.

I'm a fan of all the Z cars. I have my favorites though. I draw the lines with the "sleds" (2+2)!

Yes but so does everyone else and a lot of those guys have more money than you and me

280 s are great cars, are superior to the 240s in many ways and the prices are still reasonable.
