Clutch Problem?

Ok my car seems fine to drive most of the time but it has a couple of issues mechanically that are annoying me.

I notice when I take off at say lights or from a stop the clutch seems to stutter or vibrate the car a bit and then it picks up and the car drives fine.

It's not so bad like that though, it's more when I down gear and I can feel a vibration that I'm sure isn't normal or maybe it is in Z's.

It's most obvious if I'm going slow and I have lower RPM's I'm not sure if it's just the car's tuning with the low idle or if it's something to do with the clutch or flywheel.

I notice my car is hard to get into gear without feeling very rough but I think this is a case of worn synchro's and not so much clutch. However I thought it might be related.

Anyone have similar experiences or problem???

As I said though it's not major just feels wrong.

with the problem of getting it in gear have you serviced the tranny yet with new gear oil and looked at and or replaced the slave cylinder and hose.

you may be maybe not trying to start off at to low an rpm when taking off. if you feel there is a problem and there is vibration check the outside components first. ie drive shaft and ujoints. could be where that vibration is coming from.

also do you know when the clutch was changed last. might just be time for a new one

Doesn't sound like a clutch problem to me. They usually just wear out then start slipping. It could be your car is out of tune like you suggested, I used to drive my first Z without tuning it for a long time it it would do the type of things you are describing. carbs, timing, and spark plugs and/or wires could be the problem. Usually a drive train problem gets worse with speed or under acceleration, but I would still check it. It still could be a broken tranny mount or bad U-joint. Good Luck.

The gearbox is leaking oil. I keep topping it up and plan on fixing the rear seal soon but I haven't had time. I'm doing my tie rod ends first :classic: . I recently replaced the clutch hose and bled it properly worked fine for a couple of weeks but I think the oil get's low or old. The oil is cheap stuff from the local servo because I figure no point putting good oil in a leaky box.

I think it could be a worn transmission mount thinking about it. When I first got the car I noticed that when you accelerate from rest and the engine torques if u let go of the throttle while it's doing this usually if your just getting moving u can feel the whole lever sorta snap back as the engine moves back. <--- Does that make sense???

I know Nissan will charge me 2 arms and 2 legs for a mount won't they? :dead: .

The stuttering is worse when the car comes out of tune damn those SU's. I always notice that when they come out of tune one carb starts to suck more than the other.

Do you guys know how bad it is for a Z to run untuned? I wanna get her on the Dyno first and get the correct needles and nozzles but I have to tuck away some spare cash for that  sometimes being a Uni student really sucks.

I'm pretty sure another vibration I notice at higher speeds is a worn out Uni joint on the left hand rear of the car. It happens at higher speeds. but I don't think this is related to the clutch gbox area.

Things to do things to do.

It sounds to be some sort of broken mount, probably the tranny mount. If one part is broken and is shaking alot it will cause a lot more stress on other parts, like u-joints. I would get it fixed right away if you want to drive your car with any enjoyment and not cause any premature wear on other parts.

I have a question about the motor in your picture gallery Image "240ZG3". What kind of fuel injection is that? TWM? How much does that set up cost? Can this set up take a pressurized airbox and centrifigle supercharger? It's in the White ZG.

I'm beginning to agree with you that it's a gearbox mount it would have all the symptoms of one. It's a good thing I drive my car fairly easy I hope it's put less stress on those parts are a result. On the freeway at 60 miles + there's alot of vibration. It's not fun to drive the car like this.

I might have a spare but it's probably just as worn as I think the last car had the same vibration problem. Hence why I thought it might be normal.

Do you know if you can just get the rubber bit as oppose to the whole mount?

Unfortunately I can't help you with the white 240zg in the gallery. It's a Japanese car that I came across I'll try find the link. I really like the look of his setup too. :classic:

I'll hunt for that URL.

Thanks for all the quick reply's guys I should have posted earlier.
