Is it 1969 or 1970? My brother helps run the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals in Carlisle, PA. We're trying to figure out if the 50th anniversary should be 2019 or 2020. They're prepared to do it this year but some people are arguing that 1970 is the official first year. What do you guys think?

The first Z cars were delivered from the factory in late 1969.

Nissan North America is celebrating the 50th in 2020 (ZCON at Nissan NA HQ in 2020). They also celebrated the 40th in 2010.

There was a thread back earlier in the year where this was briefly discussed with good points for 2019 as the 50th anniversary as well as 2020.

Although the car was released to the public and the automotive world in the fall of 1969, it debuted as a 1970 model year car.  My vote is for 2020....

Delivered?  Where and to whom?  Perhaps you mean delivered to the Tokyo auto show or the Pierre Hotel?  Delivered to Yutaka Katayama!

I modified my post to make the date more vague since I do not have the references at hand to verify the first deliveries.

2019 is the anniversary year. We can have a discussion about the actual day and the exact location (Japan will win that one...), but 1969 is the year and November is the month.

Nissan have already started celebrating it for the S30-series Z, along with the anniversary for the PGC10 Skyline GT-R (specifically as the anniversary of the GT-R, which debuted in February 1969). Any local ideas of 'Model Year' and such are trumped by 'debut'.
