Posted May 5, 20195 yr comment_574878 Hi guys, Weird question for you. My car spits out black sooty condensation water in the morning like you can see in the pic (this pic has about 2 week's worth of soot). Ordinarily, I'd think this is because the car is running rich, but I checked the plugs and the spark point on the plug was nice and white. That said, the piston rings are tired and it does burn some oil (wet oil on the plug threads) and doesn't have a catalytic converter ('78 280z) but I am not sure if that will cause this sooty water buildup. Any ideas as to why this is happening/is there a way to fix it? Thanks! -chase Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/62113-carbon-on-garage-floor/ Share on other sites
May 5, 20195 yr comment_574879 I have those same spatters on my garage doors and both my Zs have fresh motors. It's exhaust condensation I guess. It is normal for mine. Is this a new thing for your car? Edit... Edit#2 I have MSA 6to1 headers and their 2.5" exhaust on both cars. They push a lot of air, hence my spattering on the doors not the floor. https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-americamovil-us-revc&source=android-home&source=hp&ei=OA_PXKOBFMmEtQWb87e4CA&q=exhaust+condensation&oq=exhaust+condensation+&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-hp.1.1.0j0i22i30l3j0i22i10i30j0i22i30l3.2489.10845..13757...0.0..0.192.1925.1j14....2..0....1.......8..41j0i131j46i131j0i10.0uA6v8uPSdw Edited May 5, 20195 yr by siteunseen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/62113-carbon-on-garage-floor/#findComment-574879 Share on other sites

Forgot to mention that I have headers too (they may be the same ones haha). Glad to know its nothing to worry about. Why do these cars do it but modern cars don't? May 5, 20195 yr comment_574887 I think it's the unrestricted exhaust, ie no catalytic converter. My souped up road race bike did it also. Straight exhaust with a small can on the rear.
