Speed Bleeders

Looks like I have to bleed the brakes on my 1971.  Before I tackle this project, I'm going to buy Speed Bleeders to install on the front calipers and rear drums.  Here's a small write up about what I've found, in case others want to follow this path.

Speed Bleeders by Russell Performance:    http://www.russellperformance.com/mc/speed-bleeders/import.shtml

IMPORT CARS SPEED BLEEDER APPLICATION GUIDE
One Person System Takes The Work Out of Brake Bleeding...Bleeding your brake or clutch line has never been easier or simpler! Revolutionary double-patented Speed Bleeder replaces the original bleeder valve in your caliper/wheel cylinder with a spring-loaded one-way ball and check valve design. This unique design opens to allow the old fluid and air out, then closes automatically between pumps to prevent the old fluid and air from re-entering the line. It's a real time saver!

Looks like I need the following part numbers, since I am still running stock calipers and rear drums:

  1. 639560
  2. 639570

I found these part numbers on Amazon (of all places):

Can you put one on your clutch slave? I don’t have friends LOL

LOL

I would think you could put one on the clutch slave.  However, I don't know which part number to use.  Anyone else know which one to buy?

I finally got my speed bleeders and installed both fronts and rears.  After bleeding the brakes, I couldn't imagine doing this again without the speed bleeder.  This little upgrade makes it SO MUCH EASIER to bleed your brakes on your own.  I also suggest buying a small plastic container that you can install on each brake when you're bleeding it.  From there you simply need to loosen the speed bleeder and start pumping your brakes.  Keeping an eye on the fluid in the master cylinder, keep pumping until the old fluid (and bubbles) are worked out of the system.  Simple and no mess.

Here's a pic of the Motive Products 1810 Bottle I purchased to capture the old fluid during the bleeding process.  https://www.amazon.com/Motive-Products-1810-Bottle/dp/B008C8O026/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=brake+bleeding+motive&qid=1559495213&s=gateway&sr=8-7

I used this on my 260Z recently for the brakes and clutch: https://www.harborfreight.com/brake-fluid-bleeder-92924.html

The nice thing is that I could do the clutch with the car on the ground. I did have a little assistance from the wife. She stepped on the clutch pedal for me. Once there was pressure on the pedal, the fluid shot through. If you don't have someone to press the pedal for you, there is always this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002SRF5S/?coliid=I2UXJQELA4O6PF

Oh, I also wanted to mention the front speed bleeders did not come with a metric size for the outer nut.  I had to switch to a 7/16 wrench for adjustments.  The rears took the traditional 10mm wrench.

I think I was able to use an 11mm box end on the fronts. I could have sworn the backs were 8mm
