Strut oil

Just a thought, if you will, on oil preventing corrosion at the bottom of the strut. I'm not saying it will or won't stop corrosion, but oil floats on water! So, if water can find it's way into the strut, it will sink to the bottom. By the way, I use oil in my strut housings, as recommended.

Just got a message from KYB Tech Support line on their recommended installation:

Q) Is oil needed for your shocks?

A) No

Q) If so, is it needed for better "heat transfer" from the shock? A) If you are doing rally racing then oil will help

Sooooo, KYB seems to be hedging their bets. Not needed but it helps things. Go figure. Best answer seems to be to go ahead and add some since it does no harm and there is a hint of good from it.

Arg, just superstitions.

I'd like to hear what KYB says since they know shocks.

Which is what Bambikiller, Victor Laury, and 2ManyZs said from the beginning! You may get away without using it, but it does have benefits. Interesting that Tokiko recommends it, and Gabriel (according to SOME people) also recommends it, and now KYB waffles on an earlier "No".

Yeah, sounds like I might as well put the oil in just to keep the mojo working. As someone said in the beginning, can't hurt. Just a little messy when you replace the cartridges, which with my dottering old man driving habits shouldn't be necessary for another 100 years or so. Thanks, Victor.
