Stereo Install....

will stores like circuit city, best buy, Fry's, etc install a stereo into a 240z for free, IF you buy the unit there? has anyone done this? i haven't tried. i just assumed that since 240z's are old, the installation would not be as easy as in newer cars, thus they would charge for the extra work. perhaps i made a bad assumption.

thanks,

ty

Not sure about the American companies, but in Australia if you go to a specialist car stereo shop (there are heaps around) they don't really care what car it is. That said, I would beg to differ that in fact old cars are easier to install a stereo in! New cars seem to have plastic panels everywhere, and every last bit of space utilised with hundreds of multi-coloured wire going everywhere.

Old cars are just plain and simple :)

yes. every now and again Best Buy will run a "free installation" special if you purchase a stereo > $100. the only thing you may have to pay for would be any equipment (new speaker wire, a mounting harness), but the labor is free. a word to the wise though...sometimes you are getting what you pay for.

I bought my CD player at a Best Buy, and got the free installation deal.. had to take it back 2 times before they finally got it right.

the first time, they had wired the unit in such a way that it kept shorting out. I had to take it back AGAIN because instead of wiring a left rear and a right rear speaker, they wired 2 left speakers (left front and left rear).

i would suggest finding a friend who knows how to do it, bring over your car and a 6 pack, and go to town.

it comes to radio installation. I found a small mom and pop car stereo place here in MV which installed my new Kenwood (with the old fashioned posts). They charged me 120 for the unit and 40 for the install. and they did very quickly and to my satisfaction. If there's one thing i would not tackle in my 280 is radio installation, that's all i need is to blow out my brand new unit because i screwed up the wiring! haha. Later i had them do my automatic antenna. 100 bucks installed. works very nicely and it's all guaranteed!
