hiyabrad Posted August 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2019 (edited) Hi all, Are the wrinkles in the pic from the factory (this is a 11/69 240Z) or should this area be smooth? Thanks! Edited August 13, 2019 by hiyabrad Spelling
zKars Posted August 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2019 When you're nearly 50, wrinkles are part of the package. Actually they are stock from the faxtory. You will find more if you look.
Mike Posted August 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2019 None of these wrinkles on mine... even back in 98 when I had the Z sandblasted. Although I do see some bodywork in that area. Maybe these were smoothed out with filler? Enjoy the before and after shots...

26th-Z Posted August 13, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2019 Sheet metal shapes were formed on a hydraulic press over shaping bucks with heat and pressure. Your car is a perfect illustration of the technology at the time and just how much curvature could be formed in sheet metal. It is why, for instance, the early headlight 'scoops' were made of FRP and later ones metal as the technology and machinery improved.
