where can you get a heat sheild for inbetween the headers and the intake for a 1973 240z. Or is it easy to make?

I'm not sure but I believe you could get one from Motorsport Auto if you had to. You might look through the for sale postings here. You may be able to score a complete intake etc. for what a new one would cost.

If you wanted to fab your own it shouldn't be too difficult. Just remember that the throttle return springs hook to the shield. If you are unable to find one get back to me. I believe I have a couple take offs. All I would have to do is find them, in my garage that sometimes is a job. I believe I have a couple off the 72's I've had to strip for parts.

Im going to have to fab a new heat sheild myself. The '73 heat sheild i have does not fit over my new headers. If you want i can send you a picture of what mine looks like or if you want it, its yours.

Piece of cake.On the intake behind the carbs are 4 screw holes(2per carb).Get a piece of aluminum used as flashing in the siding/roofing business(lowes/homedepo).Many colors/widths are available.Mine is 24 inches long and was 12 inches wide flat.Measure 3/4 inch in from the width.lay a 2x4(whatever)across your mark and bend to make an L.The 3/4 is what will attach to your intake you will cut out about 3 inches between the screw holes so in will slip up and clear the intake .Next make stairstep type bends.out 1 1/2 inches.down2 1/2 out 4 1/2.Be creative!Any time you bend metal it gives it strength.You'll see.Just make sure it covers you carb bottoms.For the springs drill holes thru your shield.Get longer springs.Attach spring to header with hose clamp.(no one can see it).You could make a Y type that attaches to the same carb holes as the shield to hold the spring,Be Creative!!Have fun!! I had the same prob. But with 2 cuts it's fine. 1st cut down the middle making 2 parts one per carb. then you may need to take the lower corner off the side @ the front of the motor.
