November 5, 20195 yr comment_586973 Some have reported putting a Zip Tie around the cracked plastic piece and pulling it tight to make it fit snuggly. BTW, did the rear brake noise clear up? November 5, 20195 yr comment_586978 Ok hear me out.... My horn pad was doing the same thing and it’s because the cracking plastic no longer holds snug on the wheel. Instead of a zip tie, I used a soldering iron. Just hold the horn pad together so that the cracks in the plastic close, then carefully draw the hot iron back and forth over the plastic melting it back together. The secret is to melt enough material for it to bond with out burning all the way through. After doing that my horn pad fits snug and had a satisfying “click” when pressed back on to the wheel. November 5, 20195 yr comment_586979 I tightly zip tied mine then Gorilla Glued it. The trick for me was carfully engaging those 3 metal snap clips as you turn it into place. I don't use the horn button anymore. The middle finger works just fine out the window of a bright orange '72 car. November 6, 20195 yr comment_587017 I made a ring from some thin sheet copper, it was about 1/4 wide and about 1/32 think sheet. Solder the ends. the ring thin slips down just around the plastic part, digging into the foam a bit, but since its so thin (1/32) it slips in pretty easy. Just have to size the ring correctly before soldering so it grips the plastic from the outside tightly. November 6, 20195 yr comment_587030 there is a aftermarket one that is a better design, much tougher, but does not have the softness as the OE. November 6, 20195 yr Author comment_587043 Which one? Would you use crazy glue to fix the cracks? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63100-horn-button-keeps-falling-from-the-wheel/#findComment-587043 Share on other sites
