Posted November 11, 20195 yr comment_587428 Hello all, My 280z will start and idle just fine, the idle is not bad. However, when I give it gas in neutral to rev the engine, the whole thing just shuts off and i have to turn the key again. Any suggestions on what's wrong with it? November 11, 20195 yr comment_587445 The AFM plug has been known to fall off. Check that. Really need more detail though. Is the engine fully warmed up or cold? Has it ever run right? I know you've posted before but I can't remember the details. Add a a lot more detail. There's almost nothing in this post. November 11, 20195 yr comment_587448 Check the air box and filter. Could be full of acorns. The sweeper vane on the afm could be stuck. Tps could be sticking on idle side. Fuel filter could be clogged etc. As Zed Head says more info. November 11, 20195 yr comment_587476 Just a simple way to knock the sweeper looose is to hit the black box on the afm with the unbussiness end of a screwdriver. Those small things get stuck by spider webs, tps and the vane. Did you pressure wash the engine bay? That could be an issue until it all dries. Usually even when the engine is warm, it will do the same thing, turn on then when i rev it will turn off. The car was running and revving fine yesterday, and even today it was back to normal then it started again. Its on and off, and at one point the tacometer wasnt working if thats anything worth noting. I dont know if this info helps or not. November 11, 20195 yr comment_587482 Seems like I remember pulling the CHTS connector off some time ago for some troubleshooting that I can't remember. It would idle, but as soon as I revved it, it would die. Or you might be losing connection of the blue wire from the coil negative to the EFI, module, and tach. Sudden dying usually means no spark. Losing tach is sometimes a sign of module problems. Check for loose wires first.
