January 21, 20214 yr Author comment_614829 After replacing all bearings and seals I set the Diff up as best I could for backlash and then took it it up to a Diff specialist that I have used a few times before, they got wipe pattern set perfectly. January 28, 20214 yr Author Popular Post comment_615204 Not sure why the floor pan rails aren't being reproduced by anyone yet, they certainly take a lot of abuse. Fortunately mine were in pretty shape except for some rust at the tail end, I got those finished up today and welded on. There is also a big hole in the rails just in front of those end pieces, comes like that from the factory. Maybe there was a rubber plug in there at one point but uncovered it just acts like a scoop picking up rain water from the road, I think I might weld those shut. February 27, 20214 yr Author comment_616751 I needed a change of scenery so started on the other side for some variety, still lots to do on the roof but you have to take your victories where you can. March 20, 20214 yr Author comment_618183 A small milestone, first coat of PPG epoxy primer is on, hoping to have the final paint on before the humidity starts in June otherwise I'll have to wait until mid August. March 21, 20214 yr comment_618211 My big fear is that you will soon lose interest in 'all things Datsun' and move on new challenges. The next logical step for someone with your skills is a late-60's Alfa GTV, isn't it? Or -- sharp intake of breath -- a Jag E-Type. Oh there's no fear of that, I love the look of the GTV's, absolutely beautiful car and I almost bought one before my first 240z but I was allowed to take the car for a test drive and they really don't handle very well, the suspension and steering design are from the 50's. The Z is much more fun car to drive and was more affordable, not so much any more. I had my stint with British cars too, they certainly have their charm but they also have a lot of drawbacks. I almost bought a 510 when I was 16 but my folks wouldn't let me so I'm looking forward to getting this one on the road. March 21, 20214 yr comment_618239 Good advice on wearing eye protection.... I spent two weeks in NAS Jacksonville Hospital after a wire came off of a wheel they were grinding the deck of the Destroyer SS Waldron. Luckily no permanent damage to my eye, but it went in a half inch. BTW grannyknot.....really enjoy watching your project!!! March 24, 20214 yr Author comment_618503 I finished up the resto on the wheels last week and have left for them 5 days to make sure the clear coat was nice and hard and took them in yesterday to have the rubber mounted, I love square shoulder look on the tires, very aggressive. Thanks to @zKars again for putting me on to them. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63170-the-blue-510/?&page=6#findComment-618503 Share on other sites
March 25, 20214 yr comment_618518 Does anyone know what the 3 green one red and one yellow dot on the tires mean? As i sometimes put tires on..(in the past just few times) i know/think? the red dot is the light spot of the tire and should be placed near the ... what you call it.. the tire valve? (Learning lots of english here!!! 😉 ) I'm particular interested in the green one's as there are 3 !! of them on 1 tire.. Yellow is the heaviest spot of the tire? (as it is exactly opposite the red spot.) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63170-the-blue-510/?&page=6#findComment-618518 Share on other sites

April 12, 20213 yr Author comment_619625 I got the whole car seam sealed and yesterday put 2 coats of high build primer on everything, so far all the panels are looking pretty smooth but I'll find out this morning when I get the guide coat on it. One good thing about the Covid situation is I'm getting a lot of work on the car done.
