grannyknot Posted January 21, 2021 Author Share #61 Posted January 21, 2021 After replacing all bearings and seals I set the Diff up as best I could for backlash and then took it it up to a Diff specialist that I have used a few times before, they got wipe pattern set perfectly.
Popular Post grannyknot Posted January 28, 2021 Author Popular Post Share #62 Posted January 28, 2021 Not sure why the floor pan rails aren't being reproduced by anyone yet, they certainly take a lot of abuse. Fortunately mine were in pretty shape except for some rust at the tail end, I got those finished up today and welded on. There is also a big hole in the rails just in front of those end pieces, comes like that from the factory. Maybe there was a rubber plug in there at one point but uncovered it just acts like a scoop picking up rain water from the road, I think I might weld those shut.
grannyknot Posted February 21, 2021 Author Share #63 Posted February 21, 2021 I'm in undercoat scraping purgatory at the moment and probably for the next week.
grannyknot Posted February 27, 2021 Author Share #64 Posted February 27, 2021 I needed a change of scenery so started on the other side for some variety, still lots to do on the roof but you have to take your victories where you can.
grannyknot Posted March 20, 2021 Author Share #65 Posted March 20, 2021 A small milestone, first coat of PPG epoxy primer is on, hoping to have the final paint on before the humidity starts in June otherwise I'll have to wait until mid August.
Namerow Posted March 21, 2021 Share #66 Posted March 21, 2021 My big fear is that you will soon lose interest in 'all things Datsun' and move on new challenges. The next logical step for someone with your skills is a late-60's Alfa GTV, isn't it? Or -- sharp intake of breath -- a Jag E-Type. 1

Oh there's no fear of that, I love the look of the GTV's, absolutely beautiful car and I almost bought one before my first 240z but I was allowed to take the car for a test drive and they really don't handle very well, the suspension and steering design are from the 50's. The Z is much more fun car to drive and was more affordable, not so much any more. I had my stint with British cars too, they certainly have their charm but they also have a lot of drawbacks. I almost bought a 510 when I was 16 but my folks wouldn't let me so I'm looking forward to getting this one on the road.
Diseazd Posted March 21, 2021 Share #68 Posted March 21, 2021 (edited) Good advice on wearing eye protection.... I spent two weeks in NAS Jacksonville Hospital after a wire came off of a wheel they were grinding the deck of the Destroyer SS Waldron. Luckily no permanent damage to my eye, but it went in a half inch. BTW grannyknot.....really enjoy watching your project!!! grannyknot Posted March 24, 2021 Author Share #69 Posted March 24, 2021 I finished up the resto on the wheels last week and have left for them 5 days to make sure the clear coat was nice and hard and took them in yesterday to have the rubber mounted, I love square shoulder look on the tires, very aggressive. Thanks to @zKars again for putting me on to them.
dutchzcarguy Posted March 25, 2021 Share #70 Posted March 25, 2021 Does anyone know what the 3 green one red and one yellow dot on the tires mean? As i sometimes put tires on..(in the past just few times) i know/think? the red dot is the light spot of the tire and should be placed near the ... what you call it.. the tire valve? (Learning lots of english here!!! 😉 ) I'm particular interested in the green one's as there are 3 !! of them on 1 tire.. Yellow is the heaviest spot of the tire? (as it is exactly opposite the red spot.)

grannyknot Posted April 12, 2021 Author Share #72 Posted April 12, 2021 I got the whole car seam sealed and yesterday put 2 coats of high build primer on everything, so far all the panels are looking pretty smooth but I'll find out this morning when I get the guide coat on it. One good thing about the Covid situation is I'm getting a lot of work on the car done.
