Call ZCarGarage and ask if they know who did FranksB’s restoration on his green car, I saw this car in his garage years ago when I bought his rotisserie for my 73. Was a trip seeing all the parts he had collected for this.

In 2016 I spent $13k on an exterior paint. Minor rust repair. Resprayed the original Color. I did the glass and chrome removal, they welded the holes left from the side molding removal, and after market mirror holes. They tested old paint depth and checked any questionable areas. Shop is Euroteckbodyworks.com a noted Porsche shop. I replaced the glass, bumpers, mirror and badges. 
A full strip and repair here would run $30 - 50K based on the amount of rust repair. A mechanic shop on the east side of the Seattle metro area is $130 -160 hr shop time. 
I am aware of at least four stock and custom restorations in the area of $125k, $135, $160 and $??? a Gold winner at ZCON.

Corrected spell check corrections

Seems crazy but it is an easy number to hit. Spending close to $200k for someone else to restore your car is not unimaginable. I could never do this car of mine if I had to pay someone else for the work. I’m no expert or craftsman and the finished product will reflect that. I’m okay with that. In the end, my car will hopefully still be worth close to what I’ve spent in parts and the better part of four years restoring.

I'm not sure if he's still doing it or not, but, Les Cannaday from Classic Datsun Motorsport is in Vista, CA.  He did some of the restorations for Nissan's S30 program back in the day and some other Datsuns for celebs...  His website is a bit unfinished, but, you can visit him here:  http://www.classicdatsun.com/contact/

Like Whee is restoring a 280z i'm restoring a 280zx..  and i do also a lot of work myself. just the fine bodywork i leave to a specialist, he's doing this for over 50 years now!  so he is an older guy but very good at it. ( the shell is strait as an Arrow.. haha)  I'm considering to do the paintwork myself also in a pro booth.. (then i don't have to pay a painter..)

I have kept record of all the working hours (from everyone who worked on it)  and i can tell you they are going in the direction of a Thousand hours..

Ones (25+) years ago i did a 240z that was rusted away and it did take over 3000 hours to restore .. but then i counted every hour, also when i was sitting behind a computer to look for parts or tech info and so on.. Also it was my first restore and you have to learn a lot.

If one asks himself is it worth to restore a 240z?  The answer should be:No.. unless it's a special model or has a interesting past..  or you'r just crazy about the model!!  ?

I guess 'worth' depends on what you intend to do with it.  If you want to restore and flip, better have a noteworthy car and do a lot of it yourself.  If you want to build a car how you like and keep it- who cares how much it costs?

I’ve decided to keep the car and do what I can myself.  I’m driving it now, and I plan on driving it often. I drove it the other day for about 120 miles.  What I haven’t done is checked out the suspension. at this point I want to replace anything necessary to ensure everything in the suspension is safe.  I would imagine there are some good ideas here on how to go through my suspension, bearings etc. anything that requires grease ?? Any ideas ?

Hi , I hope you enjoy the ride , and the  restoration for your 1970 car . I am sure you can get a lot of advices here and you can search everything you need . 
 

I recommend when you go through the suspensions, do the drive train i.e . the propeller shaft and the two drive shafts , the diff mount insulators , hubs , brakes etc .
If the shocks and coil springs are new but the  drive shafts and the propeller shaft are not restored , you will not be happy with your car when you driving it . 

The engine , the transmission, and the diff are need to work properly of course but that would be next time as I see your car is now in a very good condition.

It is fun to order bolts and nuts to the Nissan local dealer ,I hope you can get most of them . Use correct fasteners are very important especially the places where need to be correct tightening torque. It is OK to re- use old bolts and nuts but new ones are always better . And it is beautiful , and you will be highly rewarded for sure .
