These materials were STOLEN from Canada in March 2019 because China just wants to help the world and thought that stealing virus was a good way to do this. I keep finding stuff.  This one even has some China in it.  Bible study for Trump's cabinet.  It's a scary read.  Remember Pompeo and The Rapture.

https://theintercept.com/2020/03/24/trump-cabinet-bible-studies-coronavirus/

The Drollinger-led Bible study meets every Wednesday morning with members of Trump’s cabinet, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Health Secretary Alex Azar.

It's fascinating how world viewpoints and political view points vary across the country. In my part of the country the view points of this pastor are not considered extreme. Not to mention the writer goes out of his way to frame the argument in language that makes it sound extreme.

I'm not yelling at the guy holding the hose, but I AM making it clear that the fire chief screwed up big-time and doesn't deserve to continue in that position. He made errors in judgment that disqualify him. Big errors. Errors that get my attention. Errors big enough that unfortunately I simply cannot pull the big-R lever the next time I get the chance.

And as for offering solutions, I'm doing what I can. I'm heeding the shelter-in-place order. I'm washing my hands. I'm minimizing my contact with other people. All of that stuff. That's what I can do personally as part of a solution.

But in parallel with the current attempts at a solution, it's important that we don't forget why we are here in the first place. Self-inflicted. I thought he could do it, but it's clear that he can't. You can't teach judgment. The poor judgment is going to continue and it's just not worth that.

"Your home is on fire, yelling at the guy holding the hose wrong doesn’t help you put the fire out."

That's a great example. Let me add some detail...

The town next to yours catches fire. Ravaging out of control. Spreading out of control like.... well like wildfire. Analyzing the situation, fire experts tell the fire chief of YOUR town... "Hey boss. This thing in the next town over doesn't look good. This could easily spread to our town and we should start getting ready."

Your fire chief's reaction is “we have it totally under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

Shortly after that, the fire experts are tell your fire chief "Hey boss, bad news... We got a couple houses on fire in OUR town now. We're working on them, but it's so dry and windy that it's probably going to spread in OUR town just like it did in the other town. And if that happens, we're not going to have enough people or equipment. What should we do?"

Your chief's reaction - "We have it very well under control. We have very little problem here at this moment — five. And those are all being put out successfully.”

Shortly after that, the fire experts tell your chief "More bad news boss... Remember how we warned you that it's likely to spread? Well guess what... It's spreading fast. And as we warned you before, we are running out of supplies and people to fight it. What should we do?"

Your chief's reaction - “We’re talking about a much smaller range. It’s very mild. I’m not concerned at all. It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

Then the fire experts give the next update... "Hey boss, we've pretty much lost control. Houses are catching fire faster than we can handle. Most of them are just small fires and are going out by themselves, but many of the older houses are burning to the ground. Oh... And vacationers are pulling money out of our town because they're worried about the whole thing."

Your chief's reaction - “Did you say that people are pulling money out of our town???? That's really bad!! Do something!!!"

There are problems with many of these assertions.  First, the concerns in the first two articles above are intellectual property, not physical theft or misuse of genetic material. Second, in the case of the "lethal viruses" article, there is no claim that these materials were stolen. The issue is whether it was appropriate for those materials to be shared with China, based on their potential uses there.

The Chinese genetic manipulation articles are two years old, well known, and is a matter of international concern. However, it also follows the general rule that things which can be done, sooner or later will be done. China's control over medical and genetic research is definitely weaker than that of the US, and that's an ongoing matter of concern in the scientific community.  However, there is nothing secret about the fact that this took place, and information about it has been quite available.

Hyperbole, sensationalism and reaching a conclusion equating Chinese scientists with Nazi death camp doctors are all out of line, and frankly do no favors to the author or to the discussion on this website. Let's not get into blaming China for the world's misfortunes, which is exactly where rhetoric like that above takes us.

Go to China, work for a Chinese company for 5 years,  visit their offices in South America, North America, Europe, and Asia then tell me.... I did and saw this crap first hand. In Caracas they had competitions  to see who could get the most information on competitors... with prizes given.  We used to get emails that started "Dear Soldiers". Check out the arms for XXXX (xxx = minerals, oil, etc) that happens in Africa.

Of course China has been pilfering ideas from other countries for years. There has been unending press coverage of this related to everything from CDs and software up to science and manufacturing.  It's something their government either encourages or winks at.

We all know that.  Turning it into accusations that they've actively created a worldwide disease problem is too far a stretch.

Sophisticated Trumpism.  "Wuhan" virus instead of "Chinese" virus.  Like wearing silk white sheets instead of cotton.  He was first in his class at West Point, of course, so he can't just use the simple term.

From The Guardian.

"

Julian Borger

The US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has been giving a briefing on the virtual G7 foreign ministers meeting that began by videoconference at 7am (ET). He said the main focus was the coronavirus, which Pompeo made a point of calling the “Wuhan virus”.

According to a report in Der Spiegel, the G7 ministers have not so far been able to agree on a joint statement because of Pompeo’s insistence that it should refer to the disease as the “Wuhan virus”, a suggestion that was rejected by other members of the group of prosperous democracies.
