COVID-19

One things for sure, the pandemic has created enemies and allies.

Vaccine or not to vaccine. So what is the mortality rate of covid? I know several people who were asymptomatic, so how many people had it but didnt know it and never got tested? So if millions upon millions are positive with covid and dont know it, the mortality rate is definitely not what being reported, it would have to be a whole bunch better, no? Deaths against cases, right?

Well how many cases are there?

I view it more as long-COVID versus cases.  Creating a huge number of debilitated people.  That are more easily ignored of course, because they don't have any energy.

In a broader view, the question is one of a healthy society versus a sick one.  Some people think that more sick people means more for them.  Others realize that more healthy people means more for everybody.  That's kind of life in America in a nutshell, I think.

Plus more variants.  The odds of a vaccine-proof variant increase as more people get the virus.  There has already been a UK variant.  And people from the UK are known travelers.  It's what they do, they travel around the world, regularly.

And it looks like there's a new one - https://www.sciencefocus.com/news/lambda-variant/

Good point, @Conedodger.

I look at this very simply, and have expected the following ever since the first vaccines were created:

  • This virus is likely to behave like the flu virus, to which it is related.
  • That means we'll develop vaccines (which we have).
  • It also means the virus will mutate (which it has and will) in a similar manner to flu.
  • Vaccines will continue to be developed and modified to cope with the variants which emerge.
  • That's why I was vaccinated as soon as I had the opportunity. It works, and it's vastly safer than doing nothing.
  • That's also why I expect medicine to develop annual updates or boosters to deal with the variants as they emerge.
  • That's why I expect to have an annual "Covid shot" just like I have a "flu shot."

This is all 100% predictable to anyone who takes a minute to reflect on the history of the flu virus and how we deal with it on an ongoing basis.  Viruses are essentially with us forever. They emerge, we learn how to deal with them, and we find vaccines to mitigate their impact as we go forward.

It's like when people run out on the beach after the first wave of a tsunami.  We're probably going to have another one.  The trend has already changed direction but the money needs to be made.  Here we go.

"More than 27,000 people attended the game against Houston Dynamo. Masks were not required for vaccinated adults and no one was asked to show proof that they had their shots."

Gents,

I need to request that we keep this thread moving about COVID statistics and information.  It's not a bashing session.  Remember there are people who cannot take the vaccine due to medical or religious reasons and I do not want our platform to be a place where they do not feel welcome.  Thanks guys.
