Posted March 17, 20205 yr comment_594543 Hi all, I was in the process of swapping the fan blower over to a kia unit and wanted to check if this fan housing is standard to the 260z or if it is from another model. The housing is plastic and the fan is tiny in comparison to the kia unit. The entire housing is approx 15cm wide with the diameter of the existing fan at 12cm and has no datsun markings on it. The existing fan on left Thanks, Ash Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63708-fan-blower-housing/ Share on other sites
March 17, 20205 yr comment_594544 Not sure about the Kia motor Ash, but here’s a thread to a similar motor swap in the UK that you may find interesting ...https://zclub.net/community/index.php?threads/blower-motor-swap.22057/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63708-fan-blower-housing/#findComment-594544 Share on other sites
March 17, 20205 yr Author comment_594546 Thanks, that was one of the posts I've used for research. My question is more if anyone recognises the housing installed in the car. It looks different to most I have seen on the web. March 17, 20205 yr comment_594547 No, that housing and fan motor aren't stock to your 260z, I have no experience with the Kia unit, looks like a PO threw your stock fan housing away. March 17, 20205 yr Author comment_594548 Thought as much. The car was fully rebuilt by previous owner and this is another thing that isn't standard! Looks like I need to find a new housing from somewhere! March 17, 20205 yr comment_594555 Hey Ash, Is that smaller fan housing actually functional? If so, how is the air inlet connected to the firewall hole? Can you take a pic from a little farther back to show how it's situated? March 17, 20205 yr Author comment_594557 Functional is not how I would describe it. I think a fart would produce more cooling power! It has been attached to firewall with some kind of ducting. March 17, 20205 yr comment_594562 Thanks for the pics. I'm guessing that white thing was originally intended for home downspout connection. To convert from rectangular downspouts to circular drain piping? In any event, it looks like they repurposed that stuff and sealed with polyurethane expanding foam. "Functional is not how I would describe it. " Good luck with the reconstruction project. Looks like most of that is removable. Just a matter of getting your hands on the right parts. March 17, 20205 yr Author comment_594577 Yeah looks like either expanding foam or from a hot glue gun ?♂️. I take it the left and right hand drive cars would have different units? Also would a 280zx unit fit? March 18, 20205 yr comment_594620 The 280ZX HVAC was a total redesign so I doubt it. I do know that the blower motor and fan spin the opposite direction of the S30. (But that may be help rather than hindrance in your situation... ) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63708-fan-blower-housing/#findComment-594620 Share on other sites
